Someone has to run the shorter routes and be the safety blanket, and that someone needs to get the routes right and have good hands.

Gronk is out, Amendola is out, not even a RB who can catch out of the backfield like Woodhead anymore.

Edelman is the only one available to do it.
I agree he is probably the only one with these abilities. What baffles me is he must have break away speed to be returning punts so why not send him on some deeper routes too. Players are truly type casted in the NFL. The "outside" receivers for the patriots are awful....can't run routes or hang on to the ball!

yes he has the speed, at this point he wouldn't even need it, the Pats are in the same division as the Jets and the Jets have watched a ton of game film on the Pats, they wouldn't even expect him running a deep route, so he wouldn't even really need great top end speed.

I like the announcing crew for this game. They have pointed out how butter fingered Dobson and Thompkins are, they have regularly given Edelman compliments, and they have pointed out that Woodhead is sorely missed. The Pats are pathetic with this crew of receivers. They really need to go out and get Collie or someone like that.

This has to be Brady's most frustrating season since tearing his acl years ago. It's clear he needs Gronk back.

You would think the Pats would at least utilize the FB and the TE's more? They are keying on Edelman, knowing that Tompkins and Dobson can't hold on to it. Turned into a punting contest. If GS wins this game, Mayock and this other idiot are going to be smoking his pole for the whole next week.

I still don't get how Austin Collie doesn't have a job.

I keep wondering why they don't throw some screen passes to the RB and Edelman.

Spadola sighting. Dropped pass. I just wish it wasn't Smiff passing the ball to him.

This game would be a complete blow-out to the order of 35-10 or similar score, if the Pats had a halfway decent receiver corps.

Smiff with an INT, let's see if Brady can capitalize on it.

The Pats should pick up Andy Tanner, he has experience under the Saints offense which is similar to the Pats, smart, great route runner, great quickness with 4.5 speed. He could produce within one week of being there. That will be a positive for the Pats and say screw you to the Saints who were hoping to pick him up in a few weeks when the dlinemen get healthy. The main thing with Tanner is that he has stayed healthy the past few years.

Lagarrett Blount is averaging. 2.1 ypc, if he were white he'd be out of the NFL by now.

Pats will lose because these brothers at WR don't know how to play. On the plus side, if Gronk can come back and Amendola can stay healthy they could win that division.

RIdley is an average pass catcher and Blount has terrible hands. Edelman just isn't that great getting yac and average running screens. Hes a true outside receiver pigeonholed into the slot role

Even if they're both just average it wouldn't hurt to try a few screens, especially given the weather conditions. The running game is non-existent and so are long passes thanks to the ineptitude of the outside receivers.

Geno Smith looks terrible. No vision, can't scramble much and throws awkward. His passes have a high arc to them. Dont understand how a QB like that could win a starting spot. There's a ton of backup QBs that could play better. :-/

Couple of things I've noticed about Geno so far,

1. Stares down the receiver and rarely goes through multiple reads
2. Doesn't have a great feel for the rush
3. Wildly inconsistent accuracy
4. Not a guy who will be able to rely on his legs as he isn't fast enough.

I'd be shocked if he was still the starting QB of this team 2-3 years from now.

This Pats offense tonight is unrecognizable. One of the worst performances I've seen from them since 07.

but logically it would make more sense to line up Edelman on the outside and send him deep a few times, they won't even be expecting it, they might be all over a screen depending on how they execute it, but I guess it wouldn't hurt the run a few screens. Geno with another pick but still has a shot at winning this game.

Did they just run a screen with Edelman? i looked up and it looked like one, and he was tackled by several defenders close to the los.

I want to see a bomb to Edelman for two reasons, to help the Pats score, and to help his ypc, he has 13 catches averaging 6 ypc, thats just very low
