Angel David Rodriguez of Spain just ran a 6.59 for a new world leading time in the 60 meters! It's too bad that guys like him and Collio from Italy are now in their early 30's. These guys both have alot of talent but could never put it all together. It's still nice to see them out there still enjoying the sport and running at a high level. Simon Collio even ran a 10.06 just a couple of years ago.
The indoor season continues to heat up. Christophe Lemaitre has his first race in ten days from now. I'm watching for Guliyev and Reus to start their season. Not sure if Rytis Sakalauskas will run indoors or not.

Renauld Lavillenie is the only guy in the world that has a chance to break S. Bubkas World Pole Vault Record someday. It's still a ways off but he is capable. I love watching this kid. He acutally has a pole vault in the back of his house.
Michael Leblanc is still running. He finished 2nd in Canada yesterday in a time of 6.74 to open up his indoor season. He lost the race by
1/100th of a second. Glad to see him still out there as well as Shane Crawford and a few other college graduates.

I feel sorry for US athletes that are around the level of Crawford. Because the US is so deep a 10.1X sprinter can't go on international teams for major meets. It's a vicious cycle because if you can't make national teams you can't get Nike, Adidas or Pumas sponsorship. That's why the tempation of doing PED's is so high. For Leblanc he is luckier because a 10.1X sprinter can be on the Canadian relay team or even battling to make the individual team and receive a funding card.

Greg Cackett won again today again running another 6.67 time. I heard his start wasn't that good but he won easily. Hoping he can drop his 60 times down more towards the 6.60 area. He is consistant so far in his first two races so hopefully that will help to build his confidence.

I said it before but I will say it again, I like what's going on in Russia on the male track side. So many young up and
comers. I haven't even heard of alot of these guys but the announcers are going to have fun trying to pronounce some
of the names in the winners circle. Here is the results on a recent 60 meter race. Very nice times for January indeed!

Jenna continues her good start to the season. She won her heat of the 200m at the Washington Invitational in 24.37.
Even better, Emily Blok (UNLV) won her heat in 24.29. We spoke about Emily several seasons ago as a HSer.
I believe these were the 2 fastest times at the meet.

Wow the ladies are putting on a nice show so far. It's great to see some american female spirnters to root for. It's been a long time since there has been more than one of two. I hope to see Hannah Cunliffe back on top soon!
Another update from Germany. Julian Reus opened up his indoor season with two wins today. He ran a 6.68 and a 6.65 to hit the standard for the Euro Indoor Champs in his first time out! The kid is poised for another break through year. He is by far the best senior sprinter in Germany at the moment but hopefully a few of the other young guys will push him and themselves to faster times!

-A world leading time in the 400m from Pavel Trenikhin (rus) 46.30.
-400m Hurdle World Champion Dai Green of Britain, set a British record in the 600m with a time of 1:16.22
-A new name from Denmark, Nick Ekelund Arenander ran 46.96 last wkend. Before this wkend it was 2nd fastest time in the world.

First off, if you are a track fan at all run, don't walk, to the Galen Rupp and Mary Cain threads. Galen (unbelievably exciting video) dropped down from his usual 6 mile distance and shocked everyone by nearly breaking the record in the mile. Mary, just two weeks after her 3k high school record was declared the greatest high school run of all time at any distance by any runner male or female, topped it by breaking annihilating the 40 yr-old high school record in the mile. Both videos are linked.
Now anybody remember Mr. Cas Loxsom? He's been a favorite on these boards, a tremendously talented 800m runner from Penn State who unfortunately had a poor 2012. Well, he's BACK. Yesterday, Cas dropped down to the 600m and broke the collegiate record. What's more, his time was so fast that he finished with 9/100's of a second of the US national record set hours earlier by a professional athlete. Indeed, in a previous post, Jack pointed out Dai Greene's new UK record in the 600. Loxsom's run was WAY faster. Here's the video in which Loxsom looks smoother and stronger than he's ever looked before.

2. Jenna Prandini (Oregon) who finished second overall, making this probably the best-looking twosome to finish in the top five of a major collegiate sprint in years.
3. Speaking of lookers, Laura Roesler has served notice that she's ready to become a breakout star. After dropping down and winning a 400m a couple of weeks ago, she won the 800 last night at the UW Invite against a super tough, stacked field. We all knew this was coming after her unreal hs career. It just took a little time for her to grow into this.
4. Patrick Casey ran a great mile last night. I forget the time, but, like Roesler, he showed unbelievable promise in his Montana State years and now looks to have gotten used to sea level running for Oklahoma.

Welcome back trackster. Thanks for posting about Hannah Cunliffe. I love watching her and Prandini. Your right about them both being two of the most beautiful american sprinters in a very long time.

Sailer looked very impressive! allot of good news early in the season. looking like its going to be a good indoor season.
Glad to see Loxsom is back. Great Race!
What a shame someone else had broken the American record just hours earlier. It would have been so great for Loxsom to get the record.
But the season is young, so let's see what happens.

Speaking of Oregon hurdlers.... Devon Allen the super athlete from Arizona and 4 star wr is going to attend Oregon on a football scholarship but he also plans on running track as well. Awesome.

Sorry for the ambiguity gentlemen. I can assure you I am not a troll as I am only interested in the track forum here though I do have an affinity for high school and college football as well.
As are esteemed colleague " White Lightning " has pointed out , there seems to finally be some Eastern European depth emerging in the short sprints.
I would like to add a few more names to watch as they have come up recently om the IAAF site.
Pavel Trinikihn just ran a 46.5 indoor time for Russia in Glasgow, Scotland 3 days ago. I had never heard of him but he has a personal outdoor best of 45.00 which he ran in London last year. He is 26 and that outdoor time is quite impressive considering the age. He may be a late bloomer as I can find nothing on him pre 2012.
Patryk Dobek from Poland has an indoor 400 meter time of 47.1 I believe which is quite impressive since he is only 18 !!!! I am not here to insinuate that he will improve but he did run a 46.2 last year outdoors at 17 which is among the elite for that age group.
As with White Lightning I believe we may see something special out of Michael Tumi from Italy. The Italians have a ton of older quality sprinters but very few young uop and comers. I think we may have a great year on our hands with Lemaitre, Gemilli, Sakaulaskas, the numerous and young Chinese and Japanese talent and especially this young usurper Kamil Kraminski from Poland. I am still high on Andrew Robertson and Kieran Showler Davis and possibly Ramil Guliyev if he gets his head on straight. Even if some of our guys have bad years there seems to be enough depth out there to keep my interest on the sport from waning. Cheers.
