We can discuss the next generation of future stars from the sprints to the field and distance events. It starts in around 4 days. I can't wait
to see how Kristoffer Hari does. I'm hoping he can break the world youth 100 meters record for 15 year olds. He is only off it by .001 so he could very well become the fastest 15 year old of all time. Alot of other great youngsters to for us to watch.

Denis Dimitrov is through to the 100 meter finals along with 4 other talented europeans. I think after Dimtrov, Polkowski would be my next pick for a medal. I will post the three semi final heats and how they went. It's too bad the kid from Denmark and the irish sprinter couldn't compete due to injuries. Especially Kristoffer Hari as I was so excited to see him run. I hope Dimitrov can improve on his 10.16 p.b. in the finals if they can ever get some postive wind and warm weather.

The 100 European Youth 100 Meters Finals was also run into a very strong headwind just like the earlier races. Such a shame as the times suffered because of it. Dimitrov came up short but I did pick two of the top three medalists. We had 4 of the top 5 finishers as well. Hopefully this experience will help to teach Dimitrov and Polkowski that you have to bring your A Game when in the finals. Still a nice showing by them.

20 European Championship - Bronze Sprint Robert Polkowski
On the second day of the U20 European Championships in Rieti (Italy) it went on Friday for the German team for the first time in a final battle for the medals. And the first German noble title fights of Robert Polkowski may take home. Cologne won the 100-meter final in 10.53 seconds Bronze - and looked ahead to new challenges.

Robert Polkowski sprints not only fast, he talks fast. And after his success in Rieti, the words just tumbled out of him. "I have not told the open, but I came to fetch gold," he said. He was still not disappointed with bronze, was there only been joy in crossing the finish line, joy at his first international medal.

He shouted in joy this goal also loudly out of himself before he could throw down in the stands the German flag from the fans and then proudly in front of the photographers craned into the air - with a big grin on his face.

Confident and highly motivated

"Other people might have believed me and thought that was a success just the finals," said Robert Polkowski. But he wanted more. And thought shortly after the finish of the next steps. "I want to train straight on," he announced. Cologne is hard to stop: Upon arrival in Rieti he was the first who jumped out of the shuttle bus and wanted to start immediately towards training ground.

This year, now is still the Youth Championships in Rostock on the program. "I want a 20's time," Polkowski said confidently. Even in Rieti had been in the lead in it, but there he wanted to save seeds for the next rounds. In Rostock, he goes all out attack. And if the increase is not there, then just next year.

"Next year I want a podium finish - at best even a higher level," said Robert Polkowski. At the international level there are really only Indoor Championships, Team Championships and European Championships in question. "Who knows - anything is possible," was his assessment mischievously.

If he comes to rest, he can look forward only once U20 European Championship bronze - along with his exercise bike Tobias Alt, all German colleagues, the DLV coach and support team and the German fans who Cologne profusely for their support thanked.

I don't follow the youth side of Athletics, but I wanted to keep tabs on youth sensation Ryan Gorman..

Howcome he isn't featuring in the Championships? I know he had the qualifying standard atleast but I don't see his name.

These are European Junior Championships for athletes under the age of 19.
Ryan is only 14, so even though he is the fastest 14yr old in Europe, he is not as fast as the more mature and older teenagers of Europe.

Hi, I came across your site by accident, and I just wanted to give you some info on my grandson, while participating in Birmingham 2 weeks ago (where he also won) he was awarded his U.K. colours at Birmingham, and he ran in Ireland for the United Kingdom yesterday winning the 200 mts in a time of 21.45. I am fascinated to find that people in the U.S.A.
are watching my grandson, needles to say we are very proud of him.

I am not sure where to place this but Great Britian has another young 200 meter sprinter who is only 16 in Thomas Somers. He just ran a wind-legal 20.86 last week. One to watch for.
Hey WL how is it Germany's Patrick Domongala and Portugal's Carlos Nascimento regressed so much in only a year. Domongala ran a legal 10.3 last year and Nascimento ran in the 10.1 100 meter range. I have not seen these guys get under 10.7 so far this year. Man this stinks.

I agree on Robert Polkowski. Watch this kid run. He has a very nice elongated stride and despite his height he just eats up the track. Many great sprinters are huge striders. You don't have to necessarily be tall to have a long stride. Some guys just have it natural and if you combine that with the stride frequency then you are talking about some fast times eventually. The German 4 x 100 Relay Team took the silver medal behind Poland. If you watch the race, look at Polkowski on that 2nd leg. He destroys everyone and it's in the rain on a very wet track. You can see his stride length and how effective it is! I see him being very good in the coming years. I'm a little bummed about Patrick Domogala. In my opinion, he looks like he is carrying a few extra pounds but not of lean muscle. Maybe adjusting the diet and cut down on that great
german beer!:becky: He is a very competetive guy so hopefully he will rebound in a big way next year.

Poland is looking very good for the future with alot of gifted young sprinters. As I said, they took the gold medal in the 4 x 100 Relay! Germany the silver and Italy the bronze. So much for Great Britain and there so called unbeatable team.

Thomas Somers does look like he has alot of talent. We just need to be patient as he is very young.
