Serena Williams destroyed the very attractive Russian Maria Kirilenko and will now meet fellow black American Sloane Stephens in the quarterfinals. ESPN's female dominated announcing crew will be salivating anticipating that one. But Serena is playing better than ever. She's been like a terminator on the court so far. It's hard to imagine even Sharapova or Azarenka giving her much of a match as her brute power is ridiculous.
But her power and linebacker physique can never be questioned by anyone in the corporate media, as the likely punishment for doing so would be suspension if not outright firing. During Williams' win over Kirilenko, Pam Shriver and Chris Evert spent most of the match debating whether Williams is the best female player ever. The consensus was probably but that she needed another year or two of dominance to seal it as she has dealt with numerous injuries (some quite dubious, more a result of not focusing on her game, which is a good thing otherwise she might have 30 Grand Slam singles titles by now).
Evert at one point said that if she was playing now she would hit the gym regularly in order to have more power. Evert when she was in her 20s could have spent 18 hours a day in the gym and not come anywhere close to having Serena's power. Martina Navratilova might have approached Williams' build, but like Williams, Martina isn't lacking in the testosterone department.
As the announcers fawned over her, and the TV screen repeatedly showed her extremely bulked up body, not a word was said about her possibly not being one hundred percent natural, even though her pro career began back when juicing was in full bloom in baseball, cycling, sprinting and other sports.
It's also notable that Venus Williams now looks much lankier than she used to. Venus was never as muscular as Serena, but now that she is dealing with an energy-sapping disease, it may have caused her to stop any juicing she may have been doing.
The two most obvious candidates for media scrutiny about cheating are Serena Williams and Tiger Woods, but both are untouchable for reasons we all know.
