Good news that the injury to WR Andy Tanner is not as bad as originally thought...not sure of his status yet...has been the talk of training camp & impressive showings in his two pre-season games.

Bad news LB Chris Chamberlain is out for the season w/ knee injury...was expected to see a lot of playing time.

The Saints signed CB Nick Hixson a rookie free-agent from Hillsdale last week......

July 29, 2012; Metairie, LA, USA; New Orleans Saints wide receiver Andy Tanner (14) catches a pass over safety Isa Abdul-Quddus (42) during a training camp practice at the team

After the devastating news that linebacker Chris Chamberlain would be lost for the season due to an ACL injury in his left knee, some positive news came for the New Orleans Saints on injuries to wide receiver Andy Tanner and safety Isa Abdul-Quddus.
Interim head coach Joe Vitt said that Tanner after being carted off the sideline last night, merely has a sprained ankle. Tanner was blocking for running back Travaris Cadet on a play when Cadet slammed into the back of Tanner.

That was pretty amazing to see Hixson playing CB the other night. His coverage looked sound on the plays I viewed. Jim Mora and Jim Haslett probably fainted when they heard the news.

and the Saints just traded for Barrett Ruud, I think Lofton is injured. Hawthorne as well, Humber serving a 3 game suspension at the start of the season. Dwfs freaking out that Saints may start another snow patrol for a brief period, although it might just be Shanle and Ruud for the start of the season but then some local "experts" speculating that somehow if Ruud plays then Shanle doesn't which doesn't make sense, except for the fact that they don't want two White linebackers, because the idea probably involves moving Martez Wilson, now a DE, back to linebacker.

They must have nightmares of the 2006 season when the Saints got to the NFC Championship game for the first time in their history, or the 2009 season with two White linebackers where they won the Superbowl.

Here is more on Ruud. Looks like he was losing the battle to super afflete Bobby Wagner in Seattle.

Barrett Ruud - LB - Saints

Saints acquired MLB Barrett Ruud from the Seahawks in exchange for an undisclosed draft pick.

Their linebacker corps devastated by suspensions (Jonathan Vilma, Lawrence Wilson, Ramon Humber) and injuries (Chris Chamberlain, David Hawthorne, Curtis Lofton), the Saints were desperate for help at the position. 29-year-old Ruud lost out to impressive rookie Bobby Wagner for the starting middle linebacker in Seattle, but figures to compete for the top gig in New Orleans. Once healthy, Lofton could move to the strong side and Hawthorne will stick on the weak side.
