2012 Duke Blue Devils

David Cutcliffe started the Whitest team of his career last year, although that isn't saying much. Looks like a one time thing too, because the number of White starters for 2012 will likely be 8. Since '05, Duke has started 11, 10, 7, 7, 7, 9 and 10 Whites. The Brown brothers are an ultra-rare combo of White defensive starters. Their parents were both very good athletes at Northwestern.

Some White depth includes LT Carson Ginn, LG Lucas Patrick, RG John Coleman, RT Marcus Aprahamian, DT Nick Sink, and WLB David Helton.

It'll be interesting to see if Max McCaffrey (one of Ed's sons) can break through as a true Freshman there this fall. He has great size and speed 6'3"/190, 4.4/40. He played both WR and CB at high school in Colorado. Excellent athlete. Duke recruited him as a WR, of course.

I saw a couple of his games on TV last year and he's the real deal. I remember seeing a play where he made a great INT and then raced down the sidelines, untouched, for about a 40-yard TD.

Expect him to be one of the elite college receivers in a couple of years.

Too bad I don't have a subscription to Scout (although I wouldn't think of giving one red-cent to them), otherwise I would've read this recent article of him with them interviewing his new WR Coach.

Conner Vernon is one of the best WRs in college football. Sean Renfree is a really underrated QB as well. The acc is full of black quarterbacks so I hope Renfree and Duke have a big year.

Leonardfan, I hope to see Connor Vernon tearing it up this year. There has been a lot of interest in previewing teams this year and they are off to a really nice start. I've had more free time the past week or so and have used some of it to get previews done.

The record II: Duke receiver Conner Vernon caught 10 passes for 180 yards and one touchdown in the win over FIU, becoming Duke’s all-time leader in pass receptions (208) with a 3-yard catch midway through the fourth quarter. He moved into fourth place on the ACC’s all-time chart for pass receptions (208).
