Congrats to Novak, the #1 player in the world who played like it today. I just realized how close he is to be 49-0 right now, winner of 3 majors, and on track to complete a Grand Slam by winning the US Open next month. In the French semis, he ran into vintage Federer. That match had some epic points which were decided by mere inches in Federer's favor. If Novak gets a couple of those breaks, he would've beaten Nadal in the final, no doubt in my mind.

He is 5-0 against Nadal this year, 2 in hard, 2 in clay, and now 1 in grass. I think Nadal is starting to have a Djokovic problem, the same way Federer has a Nadal problem. This is all good for men's tennis, and looking forward to the US Open next.

I think Federer is simply getting old. But unlike most at his age, he could still dominate when on a roll. It's now a matter of luck for Federer. He's still good for about 1-2 more Grand Slams when all is said and done.

Djokovic is fast becoming the new top dog of men's tennis. Easily the best tennis player ever from the former Yugoslavia.

He isn't fast becoming the top dog, he is the top dog. 48-1 in 2011, eight titles, two grand slam wins, 5-0 against Nadal, ranked number one in the world. It's one of the best runs ever and shows no signs of slowing.

I know titles outside the Grand Slams are just as important, but to most laymen, it's Grand Slams that matter the most. Djoko has 3 so far, and if he doubles/triples that in the next few years (achieves a career Grand Slam), end of discussion.

By far the the best of men's tennis for this 2011 year.

I was referring to top dog right now, not career top dog. No one may top Federer's career slam total for a long time (though Nadal has a decent shot unless Djokovic continues to dominate him).

I believe if it weren't for Nadal, Federer would have over 20 GS wins by now. And similarly, it's entirely possible that Djokovic now has Nadal's number, and will prevent him from eclipsing Federer's total of 16.

Frankly, Nadal and his style of play probably means he can compete at this elite level for about 2 more years, say maybe 2.5 years by which time he'll be 28. This gives him a chance to win 8-10 majors. With Djokovic only 24 and reaching his prime, I don't see it happening. Rafa might win 2-3 more, same for Novak, although if the Serbian can keep up this level of play, he can reach low double digits himself before it's said and done.

Ultimately, it's great for men's tennis, total domination by White Europeans as far as one can see.
