Just got back from the Canada / Russia game. Canada physically dominated and won 6-3. These players play with such emotion and passion it's simply the best hockey you can see.
the tournament is being held in buffalo this year. usa are the defending champs and are looking TOUGH!!! i did a double-header today watching the swiss beat Slovakia in the afternoon and watching the usa totally dominate germany 4-0 out shooting them 43-15. the score should have been 10-0 but the german goalie stood on his head and was stellar between the pipes.
canada faces sweeden tomorrow which will be their toughest 1st round match. if canada handles sweeden, put your money on a canada / usa final. they seem to be the stand-out teams.
Sweden defeated Canada in a penalty shoot-out. It was easily the best game of the tournament so far. I think Canada might have a goaltending problem. Olivier Roy looked very shaky.
To me, there seems to be an uptick of good Swedish players in recent years.
No, they haven't always performed well in international competition in recent years.. but I think more Swedes are making an impact in the NHL.. and that's with all the Czechs, Russians and Fins taking NHL roster spots as well.
Well, for the last few years the USA v Canada showdown has been the most exciting hockey game of the year, including the NHL, so it should be interesting.
Russia just defeated Sweden in a shoot-out in the other semi-final so the winner plays the Russians. I can't see either the USA or Canada losing to this Russian side.Edited by: Matra1
A shocking meltdown from the Canadian team in the final against Russia. They were winning 3-0 well into the 3rd period only to have Russia score 5 unanswered goals against them. I guess Canada didn't bring their "eh" game into the 3rd.
