The Battle of Texas tonight in the NBA. The Mavs play the Spurs. How many times do you get a chance to see two white all stars who both lead their teams in scoring. Nowitzki in 2nd in the league in scoring and Ginobli is averaging around 21 points a game. This game is always a nail bitter. Rooting for the Mavs because they need it more. The Spurs have the best record in the nba.

I think the voting for the all-star game is about the begin (if not already). I no longer follow the NBA like I used to in the 90s, but this year, there are a number of white players who are performing at exceptional levels. I cannot speak much for the East, although I do believe Andrea Bargnani of the Toronto Raptors should get the nod at center as an all-star. The West has some incredible possibilities. Barring any injuries, I see the following:

1. Guaranteed: Pau Gasol, Dirk Nowitzki (both should be voted as starters, IMO)

2. Coaches picks: Manu Ginobili, Steve Nash (if they can simply continue to produce at this level and their teams do well. It's a very crowded field at the G spot, so this one will be tough)

3. Darkhorse picks/injury replacements: Luis Scola, Kevin Love (both are putting up all-star numbers, but Love plays for a terrible team, so his odds are long. Scola will most likely lose out, barely, to someone like Rudy Gay, Blake Griffin, or Carmelo Anthony, all of whom are also putting up solid numbers).

Depending on how things go, we could very well have 4-5 white all-stars on the West team.

J.J Redick had another solid game starting for the injured Carter helping the Magic beat the Cavs. J.J finished with 15 pts (5-11 FG, 3-6 3pt) 5 Ast 3 Reb and 2 Steals in 36:59 minutes of play but it's back to the bench and 15-20 minutes of play for him in the next game or 2 when Carter returns. As in every other pro sport "the best players play" yeah righhhhhhhhht...

How about Dirk going for 26 points and 8 rebounds in the win. Manu Ginobli was incredible as usual. He scored 31 points! What a game by both of these all stars!

Reddick should start at two and Vince should start at the three. Pietrus is not very good. He would be better used as any energy guy off the bench. Reddick fits in well with the Magic, but he needs to play at least 30 minutes a game.
But Reddick would be great on the Mavs or Jazz. Those are the three best teams he could start for. He would fit in with the Lakers, Celtics, and Heat but he would be a sixth man.
He would also be a deadly combo at the 2 guard spot with Manu in San Antonio.
Speaking of good teams, Marco Bellinelli is starting for the Hornets and is playing well for them.
So there are three white shooting guards playing prominent roles on some of the top teams. Great accomplishment!

Ideally, Reddick would be a third option with a great low post guy and either a super star point guard or small forward.
I wished that Reddick and Lebron would have gone to Chicago. Would have had James as the primary superstar, Rose as the secondary superstar with Noah as the elite rebounder/shot blocker who does the dirty work and is a border line all star. Then you would have Reddick as the starting shooting guard hitting threes and being a great third or fourth option. Have Taj Gibson at power forward, and bring Luol Deng off the bench as the sixth man. Along with Asik, get some utility players off the bench (a couple of big men, a back up point guard, and another shooter).
They could probably have gotten Big Z and still might have signed Kyle Korver.
That would have been a great, well-balanced team.

There are 5 white players averaging 20+ points at the moment...

Dirk Nowitzki - 26.3
Pau Gasol - 22.0
Manu Ginobili - 21.5
Luis Scola - 21.5
Andrea Bargnani - 21.2

Steve Nash WAS a week ago, but is down to 19.0 point a game, while Kevin Love (despite the LA detour) is steadily approaching the plateau at 18.9 points a game. Dirk is a LOCK, but the other 4 are questionable. There haven't been that many white 20+ point scorers since the 1989-90 season (Larry Bird, Tom Chambers, and Chris Mullin). Pete Maravich is the last white player to lead the NBA in scoring (31.1 points in 1976-77).

There are 4 white players averaging 10+ rebounds at the moment...

Kevin Love - 14.5
Pau Gasol - 11.9
David Lee - 11.2 (injured)
Andrew Bogut 10.9 (injured)

Andris Beidrins is at 9.9 rebounds, while Scola has dropped to 9.7 rebounds. Kevin Love is a LOCK, while the other 3 are questionable,
Troy Murphy is pretty much out. Bill Laimbeer is the last white player to lead the NBA in rebounds (13.1 rebounds in 1985-86).

In Blocks... Darko Milicic leads the NBA with 2.9 blocks a game, Bogut follows with 2.7, while Pau Gasol is at 1.9, Brook Lopez is at 1.7 a game. Last white player to lead NBA in blocks is Andrei Kirilenko at 3.3 in 2004-05 (but played just 41 game). Prior to Kirilenko, Shawn Bradley led NBA with 3.4 in 1996-97.

In Steals... Ginobili leads whites with 1.8 steals a game, Marc Gasol follows with 1.4, and Jose Calderon is at 1.2 a game. The last white player to lead NBA in steals is John Stockton (3 steals in 1991-92).

In Assists... it's Nash by a wide margin among whites with 9.5 assists a game. Calderon follows at 6.0 assists, Ginobili at 4.9, Beno Udrih at 4.7, and Pau Gasol at 4.1 assists. Nash LEAD the NBA in assists last season (4 TIMES in all).

I went thru the scoring stats of some white players (other than the stars you mention here), and noticed a very consistent trend. And this is even mentioned in the fantasy/player notes, so others have seen this too.

Basically, players like JJ Reddick, Chase Budinger, Ersan Ilyasova, Rudy Fernandez, Beno Udrih, etc almost always produce solid games, double digits scoring as well as other areas, when given at least 30 minutes a night. But for the most part, these guys are jerked around, sometimes getting those minutes, other times playing less than 20, and so their productions suffers. It's the lack of consistent minutes that's at issue here. The ones averaging 20+ (or near 20) are all starters who average solid minutes each night, and the production is there as a result.

So, my point is, there could even more whites scoring in the high teens/20s if they were simply given the minutes to play.

JJ Redick started again vs. the Wizards but, had only 8 points, 2 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal in 25 minutes. What is SVG doing? Mickael Pietrus played worse in more minutes, 3 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assists, 2 steals. I don't think Pietrus is a better defender than Redick (who's the more efficient of the 2 in offense). Once again, SVG is screwing with Redick's playing level & rhythm. The Magic barely beat the weak Wizards 100-99. Kirk Hinrich has 9 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal in a poor 3-12 FG's effort. Kirk really needs to work on his shooting.

The Bucks beat the Bobcats 104-101, Ersan Ilyasova was the only white in action and had a brilliant game (17 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 steals). Of course, Jennings led the way with 32 points & 7 assists.

America's affeletic team lost to the Mavericks last night. I am loving it. Currently the America's newest mostly Negro team is 9 - 8. I hope it gets worse.

That has to be the most white players averaging 20 plus points in a long time. Lee would be on this list but he's starting off slowly.

I hate the Heat too but I love how Stern's manufactured stars are doing so poorly.
Interestingly, when Mike Miller comes back the Heat will have 3 whites in the top 7 of their rotation with
Big Z and Arroyo starting and Mike Miller either the first or second guy off the bench.
The white players will be the X Factor for the Heat. Miller needs to open the floor up, hit outside shots, create plays
and rebound some if the Heat has any chance. Even with Lebron, Mike Miller may be the team's best creator and passer. So I am interested to see what happens there.
With three whites in the top seven there will be worse teams to root for.

In another game the Spurs win and Manu has a great game. Two whites (Matt Bonner and Tiago Splitter) played limited minutes off the bench.Spurs look like a real contender. Hopefully Splitter gets more minutes.

Its amazing how Manu year is going thus far. He is undoubtedly the straw that stirs the drink over there in San Antonino.

He is being himself. When healthy he is a dynamic star.
The Spurs' trio of Duncan, Ginobili, and Parker is one of the most underrated 'Big Three'
lineups in NBA history. To make a run to the Finals they also need Bonner and Splitter to play well.

The top teams have some good white players (except for the Celtics) playing some crucial roles plus some solid white role players coming off the bench.

The chance of Mike Miller playing the part of 'The Savior' makes for interesting storyline for the rest of the year.
Finishing his career as this generation' Toni Kukoc would be a great way to go out.

My local paper had an article putting Pig James down a few days ago. The Heat are barely over .500 at 10-8 so far this season. The DWF's must be losing their minds pondering how a team with Wade, Bosh, and Pig James can be struggling so much. Karma is a bitch. That's all I have to say about that.

Monster games by both Love & Bogut...
smiley32.gif

Minnesota beats Cleveland 129-95

Kevin Love - 28 points, 19 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 block
Darko Milicic - 14 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 blocks
Luke Ridnour - 8 points, 5 assists

Milwaukee beats Orlando 96-85

Andrew Bogut - 31 points, 18 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals, 2 blocks

Dwight Howard missed the game (Redick also) with a stomach virus, but I don't think that's an excuse for Bogut's amazing game. I think Love might be an All-Star this year despite his team's (5-15) record. When you're making 19-20 points and 15 rebounds a game, no way that can be ignored.

Dallas beats Sacramento 105-103

Dirk Nowitzki - 25 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 block
JJ Barea - 7 points, 3 rebounds, 6 assists, 1 steal
Beno Udrih - 16 points, 3 rebounds, 6 assists, 1 steal

This was an exciting game! I have to give both teams credit (especially the Kings). The Kings really made this a game, they gave the Mavs all they can handle with torrid shooting, passing, and hustle for much of the game. But, the Mavs never panicked, they kept cool, and just responded with their own shooting, passing and hustle. It was the Mavs' experience that won them the game. Beno Udrih has proven once again why he should be the Kings' other starting guard (he and Evans play well together). Very nice to see Dallas win tough without needing Nowitzki to score a herculean 35-40 points.

The slow white stiff, Kevin Love grabbed 18 boards in only three quarters last night. I'd say he's pretty good for a non-athletic white guy. So much for all these great scouts that said he wouldn't amount to much.

Good to see Darko doing well.
Love is an all-star.
The T Wolves have a great young nucleus. They need one more good draft pick
and some bench depth. Decent forwards in the draft this year. Hopefully they could get Perry Jones or
Kyle Singler or one of the great white imports.

Darko is having an okay season so far. He's averaging 9.2 ppg and 6.5 rebounds per game in 27 minutes of action. His 2.8 blocks per game is impressive though. Hopefully he can continue to resurrect his career.

Gordon Hayward should be starting anyway. They picked him in the first round. He needs to play to get used to the speed of the NBA Game. He has all the talent in the world. Good luck to Gordon tonight. I hope he lights it up!
