2011-2012 NCAA Basketball Season

We should all be cheering for Weber State to get into the Big Dance. They have a pretty exciting black player in guard Damian Lillard, who averages 24 PPG. Other than him, Weber State starts four whites. They may not all be on the floor for very long sometimes, it looks like Weber State likes to use their bench a lot.
 
Found something that may only interest me. The Long Island University Brooklyn Blackbirds (an appropriate name), won the NEC and will appear in the tourney. The campus is not far from where I live and I pass it on the subway going to and from work.

Two things always stood out. First, the school is extremely small. Like 1 city block in size. Second, LIU's student body is very "urban". About 1/4 to 1/3 White based on a quick search. In fact, last time they were in the tourney I remember they had the most hideous, hood-rat cheer leading squad. A far cry from UCLA or Texas.

Anyway, out of curiosity I checked their roster expecting 15 of 15 Africans. Ok, 2 White guys. Probably, bench ornaments I figured. Nope. 2/3rds of the starting back court.

Senior Michael Culpo starts at one guard spot and averages 9.6 points per game.

Sophomore Jason Brickman (who is from San Antonio and probably part hispanic) runs the point, averaging 7.3 assists per game.

I in no way condone rooting for this squad, unless they face a 1 or 2 seed like Kentucky, Missouri, Marquette, Syracuse, etc, but thought it was a pleasant surprise.
 
In Big 10 action today, Iowa knocked off the free-falling Illinois. Matt Gatens had 20 points and Aaron White had 13 points and 9 boards. The only guy who showed up in the losing effort was Meyers Leonard who had 18 points on 9-11 shooting plus 6 boards and 2 blocks. In limited minutes, Tyler Griffey had 9 points, 6 boards and 2 blocks. Iowa faces Michigan State next and we'll will be rooting for the upset.

Indiana spanked Penn St. Jordan Hulls had 20 points and Cody Zeller 19. The Hoosiers will have a tough game against Wisconsin next.

UConn lost :grin: but are going to make the tourney most likely (10 seed?) :mad2:

Scott Wood with 22 to lead the way in a victory over BC.
 
Northwestern's out of the Tournament. The way they played against Minnesota down the stretch was absolutley terrible. Turnovers and bad shots doomed Northwestern. They refused to give the ball to Shurna that much down the stretch. With a chance to tie the game, Jer'Shon Cobb let an easy pass slip through his hands and roll out of bounds. Northwestern also gave a lot of second chances to Minnesota tonight too. I'm so disappointed in the Wildcats, but with the way they played, they're done.
 
If anyone's in front of a TV or wants to stream the game for free on espn.com, 2 talented White friendly teams are about to tip of. Indiana vs Wisconsin.

Outside of the Jewish guy on Georgetown and the Notre Dame guys, I think Kuric might be the only white-American born starter in the entire Big East. That's stunning, considering there are like 18 teams in the Conference.

I know there might be a few (2 or 3) tall Eastern Europeans that start...Even counting them, there are only like 5 to 7 whites starters in the entire Big East....That's like to 5-7 out of like 90...That's stunning, beyond belief?

Only other whites I seem to see in that overrated conference are the dumb little whigger-wannabe's (walk-ons) that get their a$$es kicked in practice every day, but only get to play like 5 minutes a year in blowouts. My guess is they are only kept around to improve the teams average GPA?
 
Win or lose tonight, I'm very proud of Notre Dame! Their win over South Florida wasn't the prettiest, but neither was Syracuse' 58-55 win over UCONN..
 
Truthteller is right. There are only 6 1/3 white starters in the Big East. Norte Dame's 3, Kyle Kuric for Louisville, Nate Lubick for Georgetown(he's down to less than 10 minutes per game it seems like), Deniz Kilicli for West Virginia, Patrik Auda (Czech Republic) for Seton Hall (about 1/3 of their games). Also, if one of their "real athletes" gets hurt, Neils Giffey or Tyler Olander will start for UConn. So 6 out of 80 everyday starters are white for 16 teams, or about 8%.:crazy:
 
Looks like Big East basketball is the equivalent of SEC football. These numbers and the overall lack of Whites is stunning.
 
Nearly all-white Vermont is up by 13 on Stony Brook right now in the America East Championship game. They use 9 out 10 white players in their rotation, and they play some great team basketball. They're on ESPN 2 for those of you who want to watch the last 12 minutes of the game. Luke Apfeld is the Catamount's only black player on the team for Vermont. Continuing with the trend of these really white teams being really young, white forward Matt Glass and a seldom used Pat Bergmann are the Catamounts only seniors.
 
Despite not making a single FG in the last 10 minutes of the game, the Vermont Catamounts are going to the Big Dance! They're going with four whtie starters!
 
It will be Fat versus Fat in the Big 10 Championship game.. Draymond Green -vs- Jared Sullinger! I have zero problem with Ohio State smoking Michigan by 22, but it was a tough loss for Wisconsin against MSU. :(
 
When I have seen Micaigan this season they seem to almost always have 2-3 whites on the floor and several on the bench. Aren't they a relatively pro-white team?

Michigan starts Zach Novak and Stu Douglass, they also play Evan Smotrycz and Matt Vogrich a lot off the bench. Smotrycz would start for Michigan, but he always gets himself in to foul trouble early, so John Beilein plays him off the bench. Blake McLimans also plays a few minutes a game sometimes. Michigan can have up to four white guys on the floor for parts of the game. Michigan's other two black guards, Burke and Hardaway Jr., take a lot of shots between them though, so that may be what Deadlift's reasoning with not liking Michigan. Those two cost Michigan the game, and along with Jordan Morgan(their other black starter), these three went a combined 5-27 from the field, with Morgan missing several easy lay ups. Burke also had 8 turnovers. If Michigan got their white players involved more, they'd be a much more dangerous team. Novak was 4/6 from the field. He needs to get more shots, considering he played 35 minutes, only getting taken out at the end because Ohio State was blowing them out.
 
Florida State is playing three white guys a lot today, their two starters (Loucks and Dulkys), and Jon Kreft, who comes off the bench. Dulkys is having a pretty good game so far, and Loucks and Kreft have scored too.

Exactly! Burke/Hardaway Jr. were a combined 4-21 from the field against Ohio State. Burke is a freshman and definitely needs to improve greatly, but that hasn't stopped the MSM from "annointing" him as a phenom. http://www.mgoblue.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/burke_trey00.html

This year, the MSM has essentially adopted Michigan. As for what they'll look like next year, we'll have to see. Unless Burke is a total idiot, he'll return to Michigan. Of course, Novak and Douglass are Seniors' and won't be back next year. Young black forwards, Jordan Morgan and Jon Horford, will likely return to Michigan. Current Whites and future Whites are going to really have to "fight for minutes" IMO. I'm not trying to be pessimistic, not at all.. we'll see what happens with Mitch McGary and such.
 
I don't want to start CF's Big Dance thread, so I'll put a few comments here for now.


--Indiana and Wisconsin will be tested early. New Mexico State, Indiana's opponent, is literally a "we are the African World" team. Indiana needs to be physical and crash the boards. If Indiana wins here, I project them to get past the Wichita State/VCU winner and make the Sweet 16.

I'm picking Wisconsin to get past a solid Montana team, and, if they do so, they'll likely be facing a streaky Vanderbilt team that just won the SEC Championship. This would be a tough game. And, the MSM really loves "colored boy" Vandy.


--The Big East is poised to do serious damage, and will also be judged on peripheral games like Notre Dame/Xavier and West Virginia/Gonzaga. For the Big 10, that would be a game like Purdue/St. Mary's. Should be interesting games. I see this Tournament largely revolving around the trials and tribulations of the Big East and Big 10, and also Kentucky, and not so much about Mizzou, Kansas and Baylor from the Big 12... or UNC, Duke and Florida State from the ACC.

I'm not suggesting (at all) that Mizzou, Kansas or UNC couldn't make a serious run, but unless any of them make the Final Four, I don't see them as a story. Missouri is a very well-coached team, no doubt, but can be tripped up. I consider Kansas to be overrated; They don't have enough IMO.
 
I should clarify something..

In the Midwest bracket, UNC is a #1 seed and Kansas is a 2 seed, so one of them could make the Final Four. And that bracket looks rather pedestrian. Georgetown, a 3 seed, and #4 Michigan are also possibilities here. Temple, a 5 seed here? I don't think they'll make the Final Four.

Dukes guards are playing terrible (again) against Lehigh, and what do you know, they're up by 2 at halftime.
