Caste Football Looks at the 2010 Seattle Seahawks
by Foobar75
The 2010 Seattle Seahawks are beginning a new regime under former USC and New England coach Pete Carroll. It's hard to believe that in his first season, Carroll's team looks even blacker than those of his predecessors, noted caste clowns Jim Mora ('09) and Mike Holmgren. The cupboard is almost entirely bare in Seattle, with zero White defensive starters, no white players in any of the skill positions on offense with the exception of TE John Carlson, and of course the customary white players occupying the positions of K/P/LS on special teams.
There are only 4 white starters on offense. Matt Hasselbeck starts at QB, a capable veteran who has been somewhat slowed by age and injuries, some of which are no doubt the result of horrendous offensive line play over the past 3 seasons courtesy of a majority black unit up front. That trend stays intact for 2010, as only 2 whites are starting on the offensive line. Evan Deitrich-Smith is expected to start in place of Max Unger at RG, who has been put on the IR after a Week 1 injury. Mike Gibson occupies the opposite guard spot.
John Carlson begins his 3rd year in the NFL as the starting TE, and is the lone bright spot on offense. After an impressive rookie season in 2008 in which he started 9 games and caught a team leading 5 TDs with 55 receptions for 627 yards, Carlson followed up with another impressive campaign in 2009. He started all 16 games, set the club record for tight ends with 7 TDs, which was also tops on the team. John Carlson is a solid all-around TE, equally skilled as a receiver and blocker. He should be one of Matt Hasselbeck's main weapons on offense during the 2010 season.
Following the retirement of perennial pro-bowler Patrick Kerney, as well as the release of talented DLs Nick Reed and Craig Terill this year, there are only 2 White defensive players left on the entire roster. They are back-up LBs Will Herring and Matt McCoy. Herring is a regular contributor on special teams who also sees the field on certain passing downs as an outside linebacker.
