Last year's Superbowl Champion New Orleans Saints were led
by game MVP Drew Brees, a White Quarterback whose experiences have mirrored
that of many White players throughout the Caste era of the NFL. Derided as
lacking the height and talent to succeed early in his career, he has now
emerged as an elite QB. If he keeps up his
current pace, Brees will likely end up as one of the best QBs (and players) in the history of
the game.

The 2010 version of the Saints includes just 14 Whites on
their 53 man roster, a decrease of 3 from 2008. Behind Brees is rookie QB Chase
Daniel. Daniel is the only other QB on the roster.

The only White runner on the team is veteran FB Heath Evans,
who is a starter and the lone Saint's FB. If Evans was black, he'd no doubt be
used in a Jerome Bettis type role. Evans led Auburn in rushing as a Sophomore
in college and did a great job as an "emergency"Â RB for New England in both
2005 and 2007. Last season, Evans received just 5 carries in his new role as
battering ram for the likes of Reggie Bush. Heath is also a capable pass
catcher, but is used almost as infrequently in this capacity as he is for
running the football.

The Saints have two White pass catching Tight Ends at 1 and
2 on the depth chart in veterans Jeremy Shockey and David Thomas. The tough and
talented Shockey is the starter, but he has seen a noticeable drop in receptions
over the past 2 seasons. Thomas will likely see more catches this year than his
career high total of 35 catches from a year ago.

On the offensive line RT John Stinchcomb is the only White
starter, and he has been for some time. His backup is 6-7, 320 pound Zach
Strief. The only other White O-Lineman is backup Center Matt Tennant.

On defense, long forgotten is the "Snow Patrol"Â LB corps of
2007. The Saints now carry but 1 White LB, 8 year veteran Scott Shanle. Shanle is
working toward his 4<sup>th</sup> 100+ tackle season as the starting WLB.

The only White DB on the roster is backup SS/WSTD Chris
Reis. Reis does well when given the opportunity to play, but opportunities
haven't come easy for this 4<sup>th</sup> year player.

The only White Defensive Lineman on the roster is backup DE
Jeff Charleston. Charleston was originally signed as an UDFA by the Texans in
2006 and started 3 games for the Colts in 2007. Charleston hasn't started a
game for NO in the last 3 seasons and is now behind new acquisition Alex Brown.

On special teams, NO has second year Punter Thomas Morstead,
third year Kicker Garrett Hartley, and 16 year veteran Long Snapper Jason Kyle.

Not counting the specialists, that makes a total of just 5
White starters.

3 players who were cut on the final day are names to watch around the league, especially Brandon Carter, an O-Lineman who signed as an UDFA this May after a stellar career at Texas Tech, I watched the kid in preseason and at a training camp practice and he can flat out play! Also, Zac Keasey is a FB who caught 2 passes for 14 yards in preseson and a touchdown, and also made 5 tackles on special teams, he should have made the roster! The other guy is Tyler Lorenze, a TE who is a converted college QB.

Heath Evans was on pace for about 48 touches (receiving and rushing) for the season before he tore his mcl (he only played in 5 games), its not much but its more than most white fullbacks get these days. He had one reception last week but is still not 100 percent because he just started practicing a few days before the game so I suspect him to get around 30 to 40 touches this year if he stays healthy.

I agree though he should be used more, whats the point of having a 250 pound 4.5 guy if you aren't going to give him at least 150 touches a year? Pierre Thomas is much slower than him and smaller.

It sad they got rid of Troy Evans, who played solid last year when Scott Fujita went down for a few games, he was replaced by Casillias who is now on IR. I agree they should have kept Keasey because they are very thin at lb, and Heath is still not 100 percent from his injury last year, so they would have had a guy that could play fullback and linebacker.

Reggie Bush returned the Heisman Trophy. I guess he has some moral fiber in his body. It was the right thing to do.

Gay will miss Fac-lons game.

METAIRIE, La. -- New Orleans Saints cornerback Randall Gay will miss Sunday's game against the Atlanta Falcons.

Coach
Sean Payton says Gay, who left the Saints' victory at San Francisco on
Monday night after taking a blow to the head, had an independent medical
examination on Thursday and got another on Friday.

Payton says Gay was not cleared and will undergo the same procedure next week.

Tight end Jeremy Shockey bruised his quad on Thursday and did not practice, but Payton said he is listed as probable for Sunday's game.

He probably will see the field. The Saints are stretched thin in the secondary, I don't think this was just for special teams.

The Saints are yet another team plagued by black running backs who can't stay healthy. Reggie Bush is useless running the ball and Julius Jones has been awful pretty much since his rookie season. They do have a quality running back named Heath Evans who did very well as the Patriots' "emergency back" several seasons ago, but somehow I can't see Sean Paytonputting asidehis Caste blinders and thinkingoutside the NFL's very racially constricted box.

From Weenieworld: Saints placed RB Pierre Thomas on injured reserve with a left ankle injury, ending his season. It's the same injury that cost him all but six regular season games, and combined with Chris Ivory's year-ending Lisfranc injury leaves New Orleans with only Julius Jones and Reggie Bush as viable ball-carrying options in the playoffs. Thomas, 26, is an impending unrestricted free agent. He finishes his worst season with a 3.24 yards-per-carry average and two touchdowns. Edited by: Don Wassall

So true Don! Only in an emergency? This would qualify...They had to force feed Heath Evans to his current battering ram weight of 250...would like to see him running the ball more at his 230-235 college weight! Especially today vs coach Petey Carrol of the Seahawks!

Well he got a pass out of the backfield for a td lined up as a fullback. He hasn't looked 100 percent since his knee injury last year, but is looking good today as well as the past few games. Should be better than Jones, Wynn etc. The Seahawks the Saints can get by without a good running game, but if Sean Payton wants to win more he should use Evans as a runner.

Ivory is praised for his "hard nosed running style" yet can't stay healthy for an entire game. Heath Evans would be just as good without the injuries. He ran a 4.5 out of college. Saints fans say he can't run that because hes in his 30's, but he still looks fast, faster than Pierre Thomas or Ivory were.

I was surprised to read on Weenieworld that first rounddraft pick Robert Meachem has been "outstanding." In four seasons, Meachem has a total of 101 catches and 1,649 yards (he was a healthy scratch for his rookie year). In his four seasons before being whiteballed out of the league, another first round pick, Matt Jones, had 166 catches and 2,153 yards yet was universally panned as a bust. Apparently the ceiling is very low indeed for blacks picked in the early rounds to be considered "outstanding."

Robert Meachem hit an escalator in his contract that increased his 2011 base salary from $950,000 to $1.2 million. Meachem has overcome a lost rookie year to rack up 101 catches, 1,649 yards, and 17 touchdowns over the last three seasons. 2011 is the final year of Meachem's contract. He's been outstanding in a rotation with Devery Henderson, but it's probably time to give him a full-time role so the Saints know whether to lock Meachem up long term. He's already the team's best run-blocking wideout, and has dropped just six of his 153 career targets.

espescially with Drew Brees, one of the most accurate passers in the NFL throwing to him. Meachem is who I also use for the Matt Jones argument, Jones never played wide receiver before the NFL, and despite being misused as a posession receiver, he still caught on, espescially his last year starting. Meachem did have a slight injury at the beginning of 2007 training camp but he was healthyby the time the season came around. He just wasn't smart enough to play the position. It took him several years to learn how to play wide receiver in the NFL, a position he actually played in college. I remember Brees yelling at him for lining up in the wrong spot several times, and that was his 3rd year in the league,not to mention running the wrong routes at times.In fact Matt Jones two best seasons are better than Meachem's. 761 yards to 722 yardsand 643 yards to Meachem's 622 yards.Also, the Saint'sbest run blocking wide receiver isn't saying much. The thing I am worried about with the Saints is that Sean Payton might pick up Kris Durham. He likes tall wide receivers, but just like every other white receiver that Sean Payton has picked up, wont be used. He did pick up Todd Blythe who is tall, so if Durham falls far enough its possible. Edited by: snow
