Very ugly basketball until the end with guys hitting some 3-pointers. Too much fouling, flopping and brick shooting from these affletes. Kobe goes 6 for 24 in the final game and wins MVP? On the numbers, you could make a case for Gasol for MVP:

Kobe28.6 pts, 8.0 rebs, 3.9 asts, .71 blks, 3.86 tos
Pau18.6 pts, 11.6 rebs, 3.7 asts, 2.57 blks, 1.85 tos

Kobe jacked up 163 shots in the series compared to only 90 for Pau. Pau had as many assists and half the turnovers. Additionally, Pau's rebounds and blocks were outstanding.

But, you knew Kobe would win the MVP, and he did.

Overall, a very discouraging NBA season. In any given game you were lucky to have one white player out of ten on the floor. When I see ten blacks, I change the channel. We've got NBA now in Oklahoma, and I haven't bothered to go, even though basketball has always been my favorite sport.

Kobe was given an undeserved gift. With all the shots he took he should have averaged 40 Pts. a game. He is a ball hog and often hurts the team by not passing, especially when he is tossing up bricks all night. The other guys then usually stop hustling and watch the Kobe show.

Gasol was the stud. He thoroughly dominated Garnett. Had twice as many blocks, more than twice as many rebounds and more assists. He's been a super star for quite some time, but hasn't received the recogniton due him.

YObe is overhyped & overrated. Without Gasol, they don't get past the 1st round of the playoffs.

The Finals MVP is a joke, David Stern has this fetishness of handing that award to the FACE of a team, not to the MOST deserving. Gasol (or Artest) is no doubt the real Finals MVP. I'm sick and tired of seeing that award get handed to the face of the team. It should be given to whoever has the most significant impact in the title-clinching game. Gasol (and Artest) were the real heroes of Game 7.

Ginobili should've won Finals MVP in 2005 and 2007, Gasol should've won it last night.

They usually don't give a secondary star the Finals MVP. But Pau does have credit towards one.
I could easily see Pau getting one in the next three years (the window of opportunity of Kobe and the Lakers is 3 or 4 years).Chris Broussard said that if Pau wins some more rings with Kobe then he is on his way to the Hall of Fame. I think that they can win two more. That would put Pau at four rings -- tied with Duncan and one more than Bird and McHale. Interestingly enough, Robert Parish also has four rings.
What Pau did was great. It is hard to be a secondary superstar; he is the best one in the game. And as a solo artist he is better than Bosh. (Pau's Grizzlies won 50 games and went to the playoffs three times.).
The Lakers need some more bench guys. Scheyer and Zoubek would be great. They could use Harangody at the backup power forward slot too. That would help them keep this dynasty alive.

When Kobe Bryant won the regular season MVP in 2008, he was asked what made it possible for him to finally win the award. He responded by saying: "two words, PAU GASOL."

I've been reading some local (LA,Boston) as well as other national commentary about the finals, and there's a consensus emerging that Pau Gasol should have won the Finals MVP. If you look at the stats, at a minimum, they should have broken the rules and given it to both Pau and Kobe. Clearly, Kobe's best game came in a loss (game 5), whereas Paul only had one average game (12/12 in game 5), but rock solid the entire series. I can easily see him being more deserving. And I agree that he will hopefully and eventually win at least one within the next few years.

From what I'm seeing, Pau has entered a very rare domain. He's now amongst a handful of white athletes who are not mocked, criticized, or spoken of in typical caste terms. A sampling of adjectives describing Gasol go like this: "Tough, strong, athletic, skilled, manly, focused, determined, energetic, clutch, etc, etc".

He has changed a lot of people's perceptions with this performance in this year's playoffs, and particulary the finals. Even clowns like Bill Simmons, Colin Cowturd, Kornhole, Wilbon, etc have been praising him regularly the entire post-season.

He has clearly leap-frogged Dirk and Nash at this point, in my opinion.
