2010 Atlanta Falcons

Damn, that sucks about Meier. Injuries are bound to happen and I'm hoping for big things this season from guys like Welker and Shipley.

I was worried that injury might be serious when they took Kerry off the field.

Caste Football Looks at the 2010 Atlanta Falcons </font>

The Falcons appear to be well on their way from the Michael Vick and Jim Mora years. Mike Smith took over the team in 2008, and with the help of QB Matt Ryan, their first round pick from Boston College, took the Falcons to the playoff in their first years. Ryan came down to Earth a bit last year, but appears poised to lead the Falcons back to the playoffs in his third year. Ryan is fairly cool under pressure, earning the nickname "Matty Ice." Capable veteran Chris Redman is the backup quarterback. Second year man John Parker Wilson out of Alabama is the third string quaterback.

Atlanta has one white reciever on their roster this year. Veteran Brian Finneran, who has been with the Falcons since the Dan Reeves days, looks to start the season as the No. 2 reciever with Michael Jenkins out. Falcon's DWFs were embarrased when the team was "reduced" to starting Finneran earlier in the decade. Rookie Kerry Meier would've made the team, but he is on IR with an injury. Oregon grad Justin Peele and undrafted Clemson Tiger Michael Palmer are the two white tight ends.

The Falcons are one of the few teams in the league that start four white offensive linemen. Left tackle Sam Baker is in his third year out of USC, being the other first rounder in addition to Matt Ryan, has done a good job of protecting his blindside. Veteran Todd McClure out of LSU is the Center, Harvey Dahl is the right guard, and former Deamon Deacon Tyson Clabo is the right tackle. Backup linemen are Will Svitek, rookie Mike Johnson out of Alabama, Rob Bruggeman, Joe Hawley, and Guy Reynolds.

The Dirty Birds were a near black out on defense last season, but they've whitened up a little from last year. End Kroy Biermann, who finally won a starting job in camp, is a very skilled and athletic player from Montana who can also kick. Veteran Coy Wire is a backup linebacker who could be starting. Athletic rookie Shann Schillinger out of Montana is a backup free safety. The Falcons have whitened drastically under Smith.

NUMBER OF WHITE STARTERS: 7 (Until Jenkins returns.)

NUMBER OF WHITE PLAYERS ON THE 53 MAN ROSTER: 21

GRADE: D+

We all thought Finneran was started in place of injured Michael Jenkins. That seems to be incorrect.

Harry Douglas, not Brian Finneran, is starting in place of Michael Jenkins (shoulder) at Pittsburgh in Week 1.
<div ="s_pNewsTextMain">
Douglas is worth a look in deep PPR leagues, but he's a wait-and-see
for those in standard scoring leagues. Falcons inactives: Jenkins, QB
John Parker Wilson, CB Dominique Franks, RB Antone Smith, LB Spencer
Adkins, C Joe Hawley, OT Garrett Reynolds, and OG Mike Johnson.

Kroy B. (now starting

) with a sack/TFL against the $#itsburgh Squeelers. If he averages "just" 1 per game, that'll still be 16 sacks (total)...worthy of a Pro Bowl nod!

Permanently-injured Jerious Norwood tore his ACL: http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/players/playerpage/417822/jerious-norwood

Norwood another ACL victim: The Atlanta Falcons placed backup running back Jerious Norwood on season-ending injured reserve on Tuesday because of a knee injury (torn ACL). Norwood was Michael Turner's top backup before hurting his right knee on a kickoff return at the start of a 41-7 win over the Arizona Cardinals in Week 2. A long series of injuries, including a concussion and hip injury last year, have limited Norwood. Norwood missed six games in 2009, when he had a career-low 252 yards rushing in 10 games, including four starts. "Unfortunately, Jerious has had some bumps and bruises and some missed time since we've been here, but he is a very talented football player and he's been a guy that's contributed to the success that we've had," coach Mike Smith said.

Is he getting a "pass" because he's black? From my observations, the "speedier" players are more injury-prone.

The media will hype them up crazily, trying to intimidate the White man, and then they promptly get injured... How many times has that happened?

Wow, an entire 25.2 average yards per game that includes four starts? I think I could do better than that. Seriously, if Gerhart, Hillis, Hester, Leonard, or any other White RB had that kind of "production", they'd be ridiculed and never see another carry again for their entire career. Yet this guy is considered "very talented". Geez, what a joke.

HL, good points sir! "Fairyus Wh0rewood" has been overrated since he arrived in Atlanta. Both he & "The (crack) Burner" Turner are lackluster at best. Given the same # of reps/carries Toby, Hillis, Leonard AND Woodhead would be in Hawaii for the Pro Bowl come February.

he's declining already?! (speedwise, at 29 is your peak with proper conditioning, can even last longer than that).

Roddy White - WR - Falcons

Roddy White leads the NFL in drops with four.

It's an uncharacteristic distinction for White, who dropped just three passes all of last season. Consider it a fluke. White is second in the NFL in targets through three weeks, trailing only Wes Welker. He remains a strong PPR play despite declining explosiveness.

Mike Smith's an idiot for sabotaging his team! I'm not particularly surprised, either, but he really went off the deep end with his idiocy this time.

Down 10-2, you go for the freakin' FG.
