PhillyBirds,

Excellent analysis!

If it was Cubs/Phillies in the NLCS, the media would no doubt be supporting the Cubs.

They would probably package their support in the context of, "wouldn't it be great for the city of Chicago if the Cubs' can manage to break the curse? It would be a feel-good story. Hollywood could make a movie and cast Denzel or Will Smith as Alfonso Soriano!"

Par for the course.

And when veteran Matt Stairs came off of the bench and annihialted a fastball to take a 2-run lead, Dodger Stadium, and the Manny-hyping announcers were silent.

I was listening to ESPN radio's late night host making fun of Stairs after the game. All the typical stuff about him being a "beer league" player, how it took him a half hour to get his breath back after having to jog around the bases. The kind of stuff he wouldrarely if everuse in poking fun at any of the obese black players in MLB. No, they, as John Kruk said of C.C. Sabathia, are "great athletes."

Someone who lives in New York City told me a few months ago that one reason he doesn't attend many baseball games at Yankee Stadium is the "many fat black and hispanic players." Another reason is the extremely loud music that is constantly blaring out.

Great comeback by the Red Sox last night. Way to go JD Drew. Maybe they can do this thing one more time. If it gets to game seven, the pressure will be on the Rays.

I've always been a fan of Stairs since he was on those Oakland teams full of badass white guys. What a great moment when Stairs hit his 1st post season homer at the age of 40. Now onto those espn punks. How can they mock Stairs??? He's the all-time Canadian born MLB home run leader with 241. That should be respected. Those espn dweebs are just jealous when they see a real man like Matt Stairs because he represents everything they aren't. Yea I'm sure Stairs enjoys putting down a few beers after games. Whatever. Better that then the peach flavored cosmopolitans that this generic, emasculated sports broadcaster enjoys.

I'll take a Matt Stairs on my team any day!

Has one of those overweight black players, whether batter or pitcher, ever made to 40 and was still playing? Usually they've faded before they're 30.

Freethinker, one of my favorite players was Larry Walker, who was Canadian born and hit 383 HRs. Would have been a lot more except for his injury problems. He was a phenomenal hitter who also could run the bases and was an outstanding fielder. His 1997 season for the Rockies was one for the ages.

Yes, blacks don't make it to 40 unless they cheat like Barroid Bonds.

My mistake: Stairs is the active career Canadian leader in homers and number 2 overall to Walker. Walker was a treat to watch as well.Edited by: Freethinker

An appalling collapse by the Rays the other night

I like the Rays' mostly White pitching staff, and they have several excellent White position players (Longoria is my favorite). But we all know that the premise of the Rays is Hispanico affletes on the diamond.

And I utterly detest Pap Ortiz, but will hold nose and hope for the Sox to come back. It's worth it just to have B. Upton not be in the World Series. He always has an "I hate Whitey" comment at ready-five for a female interviewer

Sorry about the Cubs, but at least Lou Pinella got them to the playoffs for a second straight year, and with the best record, which is still greater than that overrated, shambling,Black racist manager before him was;that team was nothing after the 2003 disaster, just floundering, pathtetic. Then Pinella comes in,and almost immediately makes then a winner again. And if the same thing happens next year,it's still better than Toothpick Baker ever was.
