at twenty Craig should feel proud of himself. I believe his age and his long season kept him from making the final. he has what it take to make the final, I just hope he can handle all this mentally and learn from it. I would like to see Matic put up a nice PR. with this kind of field it should happen. only 1 American in the final. it looks like Great Britain has a chance at the 4x1. that would be good for Pickering.

diarrhea sounds more like his nerves getting to him. so much for Matic in the final. his start was pathetic. how can you post a 10.13 in the semis and not better it in the final. I think he's another one that lets his nerves get the best of him.

It is very difficult to run 4 very fast races in the course of 2 days.
A lot of guys had to push themselves to their limit just to make it to the semis, then were a bit spent when they had to run the semi-final and final.
I really think that is what happend with Matic and Asahara, and Pickering too.
Pickering has had a long season and I think he had already peaked, and didn't have enough strength to put together 4 very fast races in 2 days.

I think that the heat played a factor in also making these guys even more tired hence the slower times on the average. The Caribean Guys are used to the heat and i cannot recall seeing four sprinters from there being in the finals.

Matic did look tired. However, I give him alot of credit for running two 10.13 times in two days. Could he have run faster? Probably a little but I'm very proud of his effort. It had been twenty years since one of our guys had made the finals. Now, maybe it won't be such a huge mental barrier. It is kind of similar to the sub 10 debate. Once one guy acheives it,the rest will have an easier time in my opinion.

Let's get ready for the womens semis and finals. We have alot of ladies to root for.I also eagerly await the 200 and 400 meters.

You have to run 10.1 to final at the world championship or olympic games.

I was just thinking how Jon Entines "Taboo" Book is so full of crap. He guaranted that no white or asian sprinter would ever make a World Champs or Olympics Finals. He said you could bet your house on it! He is so full of crap. I wonder what Matic would have to say about that? How about Wariner or Rock who went 1-2 at the last worlds in the 400 meters. I really want Wariner to break the world record? What will guys like Entine say then?

I really think that the young guys in the future are going to step up their game. Young sprinters like Pickering,Reuss,Hession,Blume, and Kuc. They are learning what level they will need to be at.This world championships will give them a better idea of what the olympics will be like. The future is looking bright.

Matic maxed his potential for this meet. If Pickering had the case of the runs then he probably did too. If not it's a learning experience. Asafa Powell wins my goat horns of the meet award....

As for Etines book it was written by a dork who doesn't know sports and the history of it, or the complicated matter of why certain ethnic groups dominate certain sports. I do recall him saying that whites have performed better in the longer sprints vs the century.

What a Idiot is John Entines like you guys set we have Wariner,Rock and 400 meter hurdles and a lot of potential.if there were books of taboo 'swimming'or'weightlifting'the book were more true because a black never made it. Guus Hoogmoed have the potential to be next year in the olympic games final if he had his own trainer and not one with a full time job that trains him 1 a 2 times a week. But still national champion 100 and 200.In the junior national championschips in my country it was also a white gold medal sprinting sweap. But we have a judge black(west african heritage)population

WL I wish I could muster up your optomosm but the plain fact remains that whites are behind blacks in the 100 meters. Pickering ran poorly if you ask me--false start may have been problem but still where was the burst? I like his scowl but we have seen many a white youngster stall.Whites have to win these events to start shaking the ground otherwise it is same ole story. A silver or bronze would lessen the pain but looks grim even for women. Maybe these young runners will emerge in a year or two--ala Niemov--a touch small but nice form--but history suggests otherwise. Perfect example: The attractive Lalova was well on her way a few years back . Then she breaks her leg or something and now she is a solid middle of the pack runner--very depressing.
The triple jump was all black in the men 1,2,3.
At least the Heptahlon was all white with Swede Cluft dominating.
As most of you know VS is carrying the WC's every night and NBC on weekends. Good TV coverage. Will see how rest plays out as women's 100 meters is coming right up.
Hopefully men and women can make more noise in the 200 meters. Remember this is the most important T& F event outside the Olympics next year in Beijing.
The hot tumid conditions may favor the black runners--like to see these events in a cold Russia I wonder.

Results from 100 meter women are in . Nothing good to report and I will leave it at that. 0-6 in the 100 meters. It sickens me.

Kim Gevaert got 5th in the women's 100 at 11.05. Veronica Campbell won in 11.01, so it was a relatively close race. The 11.05 was a season best for Kim and very close to her PB of 11.04.

Yes, it's been a weak showing this year for the men. Matic's 10.13 will probably stand as the best time. I was hoping someone would at least beat Yepishin's 10.10 from last year. It looks like Macro, Shirvo and Nagel are finally done.

Pickering is the big hope. He had some ups and downs this year, but continues to progress well. I hope he stays healthy and continues to develop his strenghth. Next year will be very telling. And of course Kuc, Blum and someone we don't know about yet are hopes.

I tend to agree. And it's not gonna get any better either. There are 28 black sprinters 25 or younger who ran 10.15 or subthis season..40, if you include guys over 25. Pickering and Hoogmoed were the only 2 white guys, and Matic as far as total whites. The future looks grim.

Pickering isn't even 21 yet. He's 17 in black years! Seriously, not enough
thought is given to the fact that blacks tend to mature and develop
earlier. Most of the great white sprinters hit their peak at a later age than
black sprinters. Wariner is an exception. Then again, maybe we wouldn't
have so few exceptions if whites actually competed in certain events in
significant number. Wariner has had some effect, but it will take years for
it to show. But whenever I hear the "never" argument, I point at boxing,
MMA, etc. How hard do you think the string-pullers are working to bring
things back to normal in boxing? Back to Pickering, he merely needs to
stay focused. He'll be 25 at the 2012 Games and 29 at the 2016 Games -
ignoring all the WC's in between. He's going to surprise a lot of the
naysayers. I stand by that. If a type of drug enforcement is ever actually
implemented evenly for all without the testing protocols etc revealed to
certain people and federations you'll also see some things change. If you
don't think politics reins supreme in sport, then take another look at the
NFL (hey, we have this site because of it), MLB, the NBA, European soccer
leagues, punishments and cover stories in track and field for "certain"
affletes and you can see that things being tweaked, to say the least. But
politics is for another thread.

I wouldn't get too upset over some of the results at the WC's either. Once
in awhile things get skewed as they did in the TJ, where injuries and other
factors cause things to finish up out of form. Just the fact that Osovnikar
made the final is great news. For years we've been having to hear about
the "all black" finals, no white will ever again make it to the 100 finals,
blah blah blah. Entine isn't worth getting into. He has an agenda whether
he realizes it or not. You won't see him or his ilk work so hard to prove
blacks are inferior in different areas. In any field of endeavor. When
clearly they are.

I'm happy that Matic made the final as well.I agree with Colonel Callan that drug testing needs to be "cleaned up" and if that were to happen there would be a more even playing field.Doing some checking white is right is correct there were three Euros who made the final in 1987 and they were Pierfrancesco Pavoni, Atilla Kovacs and Viktor Bryzgin. That's twenty years guys, where were you in '87?When you look at it Matic made history yesterday.

Alan Webb is in the finals of the 1500M. He can win this thing.

Dathan Ritzenhein and Galen Rupp finished 9th and 11th respectively in the 10,000M final. Not bad.Edited by: Poacher

The 200 and 400 meter heats have started. All of the favorites have advanced. A couple of quick notes. Johan Wissman went into the 44.9 range in his first heat. That is a new national record. Goussis of Greece ran an incredible 20.11 in his first round of the 200 meters. That is Kenteris like. I just wish he would have not done this in the very first round. Talk about burning yourself our. The 2nd round will be in approx. 4 to 6 hours from now. I will keep you guys up to date.

Wow! Greek sprinter Anastásios Gousis runs the fastest 200m in the first round at 20.11! Who is this guy? I hope that he didn't burn himself out in the first round.

Osovnikar, Hongisto (FIN), Dolphin (NZ), Cribari (SUI), Hoogmoed, Jedrusinski (POL), Abrantes (POR), Teplykh (RUS), Hession, Schneeberger (SUI), and Beyens qualify for the next round.

He was in the fastest heat so he had to run fast.
Of course I didn't see the race so I don't know who was pushing this to such a fast race...it could have been Gousis.

Isinbaeva continues her dominance with another gold in the pole vault. She is the face of Track and Field. And the Russian women swept the long jump. This is great news. Lebedeva led the way. Hopefully the tide starts turning in Japan.

Pittman/Rawlinson looked strong in the 400 hurdles. I hope she beats the Russian world record holder as she looks like she is on HGH. Today in the 400 mens final Kunkel pulled a hammy but the Pole did better than expected by winning a bronze. Too bad on Kunkel as he looked like he could battle for a medal.

A black won High Jump --whites placed silver/bronze. The 200 meters men is as depressing as the 100 meters. Don't look for any medal as only one white I believe is in the final and just barely. Don't hold your breath for some Olympic uprising either. I don't see the material. The demon wind continues to blow a toxic brew across the world of sports. Life sucks and then you die but not before having to endure the ongoing black/white misery of sports today. JOYLESS for the most part except a few spots--ala women's long jump. Nice results there. That is the run/jump athlete event.
