Typically, when a guy at a position like QB becomes a starter for the first time they experience a modest amount of success because opposing teams don't have a lot of film to study, or past experience to draw from when setting up their defensive gameplans. The true test for Gerrard will be this coming season. If he has another decent season, I'd say he has a shot at being a legitimate game managing type of QB, and as long as the Jaguars continue to run the ball well and play Defense, they have a shot at being a contender. If he fails, he will just be the next in a long line of Black hyped up QB's who have a year or two of success in a career of unreached expectations.

Well Garrard is pretty much a Dilfer-like caretaker, game manager or whatever, but add good mobility to the mix. He never throws for over 250 yards and more than 2 TD per game, not a game-breaker by any mean, but won't cost any games(well, not my his throwing anyway, fumbles are another thing...) he looks like a respectable person but is already peaking and his upside is limited. It will be his last contract for sure, I don't think he'll see the 5th year of it honestly(already old at age 30, carry a lot of weight on his knees, may not stay mobile for so long...).

With the trade of Marcus Stroud to Buffalo, veteran Rob Meier will finally get the chance to start in '08. His backup is Derek Landri, who may also eventually become a starter. More than a little ironic that the blackest team in the league has two white DTs, the second most Caste defensive position after cornerback. Also some irony in that the team Stroud was traded to is the only other one with two white DTs.
