Wow - Cards and Eagles were like modern NFL teams even back then. Note how they were cellar-dwellers as well!

Nice work. Just to be clear, that is only 'starters'. So adding in punters, kickers, second and third string QB's (almost all white), along with the other white backups, is it safe to assume close to 50% of rosters were white in 1986?

P.S: I don't know if teams even had specialized long snappers back then, the snappers just happened to be the best available lineman, usually a center? That's one very small positive for whites today -- a spot is usually reserved for a designated snapper...seems like 99% of them have been white the last decade.

Seattlefan, great work. Its interesting that white offensive players didn't drop from 1981, but white defensive players did significantly, from about 40 to 30%.

Thanks to you and Referendum for posting information like this; it makes for fascinating reading!

I think it's interesting how, in general, Whites will conservatively estimate their own numbers when counting the Whites in a sport, because even when a person is only partly-Black, he's "out of the club".

If we were to count all the Mullatto and other mixed-race what-have-yous that are partially white as a fraction of a White person, the number of "Whites" in some sports would rise at least somewhat. And, in the NBA in particular, I'm sure if we counted every half-Black player as 1/2 of a White person when counting Whites, Whites would be a larger percentage.

— But no self-respecting White person wants to claim these people as "White", so they all get lumped in with "Black".

In a way, the shrinking percentage of those who can be called "just plain White" in amateur and professional sports is indicative of the White race fading away in general.

I hope the Coked-out White Slobs (I like to call them COWS) wake up one of these days before it's too late.
