The media continues its unfathomable support of Mike/Michael Vick. This unquestioned support is across the board in the mainstream press, with no exceptions. If you watched Houston's game yesterday, you could see David Carr being victimized by several dropped passes. He didn't chastise his receivers, he did what all good what athletes do- he chewed out no one in particular and certainly didn't talk about dropped passes publicly. White QBs have to deal with this problem in every game, because their black receivers simply can't catch footballs very well. Funny, the only time it becomes an issue is when the QB is black. For instance, when Matt Jones made the unforgivable mistake of dropping one of David Garrard's passes a few weeks back (no, it was not two- the other was not a clear drop), he was summarily benched, and he was soundly criticized in the media, as if he was the poster boy for WRs with bad hands. I just heard Mike Ditka, who is allegedly an "old school" guy from the good old days, do everything but put Mike/ Michael Vick in a wedding dress (like he did when he "married" Ricky Williams some years ago) while defending him on NFL Prime Time. At the same time that NO ONE is criticizing this completely inept QB, the same jock- sniffers are questioning whether it's time to bench Rex Grossman or even Eli Manning. Imagine that- Manning is a truly great young QB who has hit a few bumps in the road lately, but has already accomplished more passing than Mike/Michael ever will. These lame, wannabe comedians are delighted that Jake Plummer has been benched, and are already speculating that one of their favorite whipping boys- Houston's David Carr- may face competition for his job next year from Plummer. Again, just switch Grossman, Manning or Carr with Vick- can you think how much ridicule they would face if any of them had the kind of pathetic passing stats that Mike/Michael has accumulated during his years as a starter? Has any one of these clowns ever suggested, for one minute, that Atlanta bench Vick, and give Matt Schaub (who has looked great) a chance to start?
I know that Don is fond of referring to Kordell Stewart's years in Pittsburgh as a "great 8 year experiment," but Mike/Michael Vick will shatter that record. The love and support for this abysmal "athlete" is so widespread and irrational that he is guaranteed to be a starter unless he voluntarily benches himself at some point. We all know how likely that would be, considering how he suffers from the same "self-esteem" issues that all modern day homeboys and homegirls do.
