I really enjoyed seeing Wariner win the 400 at the last olympics, but I think the most exciting moment for me personally was seeing Liu Xiang burn the field in the 110 hurdles. He's a young guy who'll probably break the world record this season.

If I rememeber right,he is already tied for the world
record right now.So he is a co-world record holder.Very
impressive.I like S.Ollijars of Latvia,Kronberg/Swiss,
I think his name is Lictenegger, and a few others.I think
that Ollijars can be a world champ. He has 10.25 speed
and excellent form.He also has the 3rd fastest time this
season indoors so far.

All i know is, those guys are really talented, because I tried running the hurdles in high school. It was tough. I tip my hat to anyone who can run them that fast.

Asians are considered smart but unathletic- like whites- so it is
good to see them beat blacks. They're also pretty low on the
totem pole in America as far as the media, sports,
entertainment, etc., are concerned. They're not magnets for
pity or fear; they work hard and do well in school, and they
understand what "polite society" means, so they're not "the
squeaky wheel that gets the grease." Nor do they gain much
notoriety by dominating music or sports (the only things that
Americans care about, apparently.) They're a notch above
whites because they're not seen as "oppressors," but quite a
bit lower than blacks, women, gays, etc.

Hi JD, you sure hit it on the head. What you said corresponds to what J. Phillipe Rushton said in his book, Race, Evolution and Behavior. Check it out if you haven't already read it. It's like everything is on a continuum with blacks on one end, Asians on the other and whites in the middle. That's why an Asian winning a sprint related event is a major upset. The studiesRushton reviewed and conductedshowed that blacks have the highest self esteem, Asians the lowest, whites in the middle. Blacks have the highest sex drive, Asians lowest, whites middle. And Asians have the highest intelligence, blacks lowest, whites middle. Blacks produce more children, but more of them die. Asians have the lowest infant mortality rates, blacks highest. Black countries have the highest crime rates, Asians lowest, whites middle.

Of course the hurdles do present variables that require more than just speed and quickness. It seems Asians do excel at events requiring high levels of skill and technique.

Chinese Olympic gold medalist Liu Xiang is likely to break the world record in the men's 110m hurdles in 2005, said Liu's coach in Yichun City of East China's Jiangxi Province on Saturday.

Sun Haiping told Xinhua that Liu still has great potential though he has taken the Olympic crown with a record-tying time.

Sun said Liu's condition in training now is as good as that before the Athens Olympic Games and that he has the ability to break the record by year-end.

However, whether the 21-year-old can break the record also depends on the track, the weather, the wind direction and speed and so on, Sun added.

Sun and Liu arrived in Yichun early Friday morning for a two-day national track event.

Liu is the first Chinese athlete to take Olympic gold in the short-distance race, which used to be dominated by Americans and Europeans. His time of 12.91 seconds equalled the mark set by Briton Colin Jackson at the 1993 world championships in Stuttgart, Germany.

Xiang ran a 13.12 in Osaka yesterday to lead the world. The guy is amazing. He's the Bruce Lee of the hurdles.

With Allen Johnson at the end of his career,Xiang might
just be the best hurdler out there right now.I do think
he will be a favorite in the 2008 Olympics in his
homeland of China.

Stanislavs Olijars ran a 13.11 today in a race in
Qatur. He is quickly becoming the main man to challenge
Xiu.Olijars would have made an excellent 100 meter
sprinter with his speed. He will be a force to be
reckoned with.

Liu Xiang blistered a 13.06 at the Prefontaine. Trammell was second at 13.12. Allen Johnson was DQ'd on a false start.

Congrats to Liu.What a great race.He is the best hurdler
in the world right now.The one good thing about China
is that it is similar to Russia,Germany and Poland. They
don't drill into your head that you have to be of
african ancestry to suceed. They just train as hard as
they can and show up in good form.I would have to think
that we should have many sprinters, hurdlers, etc. from
this country who never even try out for the team. With
our population,we could be even better if not for the
old stereotypes that refuse to die.
