110 meter Hurdles

There is a lot of talent, especially young talent in the 110m Hurdles this season that I wanted to start a thread to keep track of it all.

The junior level of hurdlers has never been more exciting.
Here are some top, young hurdlers. Not just good, but really good!

-Andrew Pozzi from Great Britain. He just set the British Junior record of 13.29.
-Gregor Taber of Germany. His best time is 13.31, also a National Jr. record. He also ran a 13.55 in the senior hurdles (higher), which is the fastest time by a European Junior in 13 years.
- Jonathan Cabral, US high schooler - California State Champ, and #1 high schooler in the country. His best time is 13.36. He was also the top 300m hurdler in the country this year.

Other top juniors, are
- Jack Meredith from Britain, whose best time is 13.48; and
-Dario Vanderveken from Belgium, whose best time is 13.47 and a National Jr. record.

At the senior level, we have
-Barrett Nugent from LSU, who was the NCAA champion this year. The first white champion in this event at the NCAAs since 1970. His best time is 13.35.

Another young talent at the senior level is
-Konstantin Shabanov of Russia. His best time of 13.35 is the new Russian, U23 record.

Not so young, but running at the very top levels are
-Andy Turner, who set a new PB this season of 13.22; and
-Liu Xiang of China. Obviously he is not white, but has been a huge caste buster in this event, much like Wariner in the 400m.
He is finally getting back to his record breaking form and has a best this season of 13.00.

Believe me, the short hurdles have not looked this good in awhile.

and he just beat Joshua Hawkins from NZ who jumped from a 2010 PB of 14.09 to 13.44 in this final...... some improvement

Andrew Pozzi of GB ran 13.35 in London over the weekend. A good time, but especially good considering he is only 19 yrs old.
In fact it is the fastest time ever by a 19 yr old Brit (bettering Colin Jackson), and also fastest European at that age.

Wow what a great time by Pozzi. I have patiently waited for a white 110 high hurdles medal contender. The closest recently has been Andy Turner but he just never could get to that top level. Pozzi hopefully will go way above and beyond what Turner has done and I'm hoping a few more of the other young hurdlers from around the globe an continue this trend!

It still makes me mad that a little country like England can produce so much more white talent than the huge United States can. It tells me that they are a little bit more fair. Also there sprinters have been very average for a long time. I'm happy about that though because it's giving guys like Pickering, Kilty, Robertson and others a chance to get involved in the sprints and eventually at least a few should break through! Come on America. Wake up and give more white men and women a chance in the sprints and hurdles.

As mentioned in the outdoor results discussion, Barrett Nugent won the SEC hurdles in 13.40w.
Jonathan Cabral, a freshman at Oregon, easily won the Pac 10 hurdles in a time of 13.61w.

Lawrence Clarke of GB, set a personal best in Geneva today - 13.33.
Now Britain's top 3 hurdlers are
Lawrence Clarke 13.33
Andrew Pozzi 13.35
Andy Turner 13.42

Not too bad! And Clarke and Pozzi are both under 23yrs old. So basically, collegians.

Results from a meet in Italy today:
All these guys are white except Garfield.
A lot of depth at this event, and Sergey seems to be the best European hurdler right now.

Another good result from Sergey but I won't be satisfied until these guys can get down to around 13 seconds flat. That barrier has been similar to the 10 second barrier in the 100 meters and it's more mental than physical in my honest opinion. Exciting times are coming in the future. I predict the 2016 Olympics will be incredible from our perspective barring guys being stuck in neutral, reverse or injuries halting their careers. At least the future looks very bright at the moment!

A nice article on Sergey Shubenkov - the Siberian express!
He is the best white hurdler these days, and I hope he will approach 13 flat this season.
He comes from an athletic family, but is not one-dimensional: he has a law degree as well!

i reckon shubenkov should take the indoors in the 7.4s somewhere ...and he is definitely a guy to break 13 in the next 2 years ....anybody know where petar svoboda is ???

Last year he was injured, and Devon Allen came onto the scene at Oregon and won everything.
This year Allen is out and Cabral is coming back

Meanwhile a lot of talented young hurdlers mentioned previously have gone missing, including Pozzi from GB, Tabor from Germany, Vanderveken from Belgium, Van der Merwe from South Africa, and Barrett Nugent of the US.
I know Pozzi has been injured, but don't know about the others.
This event was looking very promising just a few years ago. There's still Allen and Cabral, but would have loved to see a lot more of these guys come through to the elite level.

21 year old Nicholas Hough is still progressing here. 13.42 this year and a 10.39/100 - 20.66/200 from back when he was 19. He'll have to keep improving but he's 6'3" and 86kg (190lbs) so strength and height should be no problem for him
