100 best baseball players of all time

IMO, "The Georgia Peach" is #1...and certainly doesn't take a back seat to Willie Mays!

WA33, Mattingly should be in there. I was always a big Dale Murphy fan, and believe he should be in Cooperstown and also on this list. Josh Gibson at #18 is BS...as is Jackie Robinson at #44.

I see a lot of politically correct picks. The inclusion of several negreo league players etc. Jackie Robinson shouldn't be on the list at all. Mays 2nd and Aaron 5th - I don't think so. Mickey Mantle and Ted Williams should be ahead of them IMO - along with a handful of pitchers. What a game to watch tonight BTW.

Evar Swanson, who is not on the all time greatest players list was certainly one of the few best players at one aspect of baseball: running the bases.

According to Guiness World Records, Swanson has the fastest time ever for a complete run around the base path.

Interesting, I've never heard of him. And I thought I heard of everybody in baseball. I wonder how he was timed, was it during a game like an inside the park homerun or just during practice. Did he swing and drop the bat or was it from a standing start? Not to diminish his record but I doubt that anyone is timed for that anymore. I see from his stats that he stole 33 bases in 1929 without getting caught. Not bad. He had a .303 lifetime average yet only played 5 years. I wonder why?

Aaron ahead of Gehrig? What exactly is Hank's claim to fame? Hanging around for 50 seasons and 45,000 at bats so he could finally overtake Ruth's home run title? What, are there black quarterbacks for these "best ever" lists now?

I'm a huge fan of the Babe, but it is hard to argue that Cobb doesn't deserve the number one spot. Ty seems to me the most complete player to ever grace the game and not a guy you would ever want to screw with!

I don't know much about baseball either, but I've heard Micky Mantle could have been the best ever- outside of maybe Ruth- if he doesn't tear up his knee in a pothole in the outfield. He had some blazing speed before that injury and was the consummate complete player- even more so than Mays.
