USA v. Argentina could be an entertaining game if the teams aren't too down about not being in the final.

The "baby Shaq" character turned down the Clippers and will play for Olympiakos next year. The most Shaq like quality of the "baby" is his free throw shooting. They got him out of there when the end of game fouling began. For the game he was 2 of 6 from the stripe. Also, he was the last selection to the team owing to attitude problems. Judging by his physique I think it would be safe to say he's not a gym rat.

He said its a given that the U.S. has the best 'athletes,' hands down, but the international teams play better team ball under 'international rules,' what ever that means.

The NBA blacks were at a severe disadvantage not having thebenefitof American Caste System rules. The ref's didn't allow them to take 7, 8 or 9 steps on the way to the basket. Blacks were not allowed to run over whites or hammer them at will, without fear of a whistle. Whites were allowed to play defense and didn't routinely foul out of games in the first quarter. Whites had to actually commit fouls before getting whistled.Unlike the NBA during closing minutes of games, whenwhite players are routinely penalized for being withing 4 - 5 feet ofany Negro shooting or driving to the basket. Also,If a white complains that he was in the required statue postion while getting whistled, he willpromptlyreceive a technical.

The Europeans also put a premium on silly things likerunning precise plays, making free throws, passing and shooting from the floor with a high percentage. Can you imagine if the -sluglike- white players had any athletic ability what the scores would be? I shudder to think.

That's not only right on the money Bart and very funny as well. Not only do the "white boys" have to overcome their perceived lack of "ballin' skillz", but they have to compete against the unbelievably bad calls by the refs. I first noted this as a teen when Jordan received every benefit of the doubt and then some. Watching the Bulls infuriated me and I hated them when every other fan adored the chosen one. I especially was ready to throw a hammer through my parents television when the Jazz were in the finals and Jordan would routinely shoot 50 free throws every game. This blatant bias continues today whenever a white player is on the court and especially bad when a team dares to field two or three such as Duke. Im sure everyone here can attest to this B.S. but the average person doesn't even give it a thought.

Are we enjoying this or what? There aren't many threads on this site where all that is missing is the beer and music. Let's keep this party rolling with an Argentina victory!

The media lackeys can't handle this anymore. The Olympics, Soccer, Boxing and yet another Dream Team butt - whipping. We all know Dwayne Wade, LeBron James, Howard and Mello are Gods. What a disaster! Take this Cowherd!

they can play whatever "card" they want, but this is basketball not poker, or should i say "rape-her" as is often the case? anyway, i digress.

the fact is they were outplayed by a team of nobodies as far as the NBA is concerned. "Baby Shaq" is the only one to have ever been drafted, and he's not bad. not real good, but not bad. he's a 6'10" danny fortson: a rugged interior player who can score on dunks and put-backs, but a solid contributor. i think he was 6-7 from the floor for the game. of course, he had most of his shots created by the stellar play of Greece's perimeter players.

he is NOT the pivotal player, or the "spiritual leader," or whatever on the team, that title goes to Vasileios Spanoulis, who dropped 22 on our, uh, beloved afleetes. Konstantinos Tsartsaris added 12 assists, as he picked the USA apart on the pick-n-roll.

i expect Argentina to put a whooping on the US in the bronze medal game. and maybe Nocioni's nuts will be placed in another black face.

additionally, i went to NBA.com and it's shockingly devoid of the WCOB results. they're there, but it seems that the WNBA has suddenly gained a place of prominence...

I took mbm's comment to mean that regardless of how poorly the U.S. team performs, and how well the international team plays, the U.S. team will still make an excuse for their loss, not that they would have actually won with Shaq or Kobe.

Shaq might have been a hinderance. I think he has finally got old. Did he takeover the NBA finals. As for Kobe if he is heaving the rock and his shot isn't dropping he could be a big hinderance as he could pull a John Starks and take shot after shot. Or Kobe obviously could have put the US over the top, but who's to say in a one and out situation he would be on when you need him to drain the 3?Edited by: white is right

I watched the rebroadcast of the game and it was kinda funny, for years I cheered everthing USA and now it seems all I want is for them to lose. Oh well it's not my country anymore anyway. Greece looked good and the US style of taking it to the hoop no matter how congested or contested is just ugly. It seemed that the US best weapon was Hinrich and his 3 point shooting. It would never happen but if the US sent an all white NBA team to the Worlds they would probably clean up. Basketball is a team game. I think the NBA has forgotten that. Too bad.

What i find hilarios is the fact that, regardless of who can throw the ball better. i believe we ALLLL know who plays better basketball. And who we'd actually PAY our hard earn money to watch playin.

I gotta hand it to the european white boys, because thse kids can SHOOT. and are very accurate. They are good with simplistic basketball, however when it comes to HARD BALL, they're nothing short of amatures who cant jump.

So ever all. I think its apparant that white kids can throw the ball, and are very accurate, but when it comes to making money, and selling tickets, black kids win hands downEdited by: McBride

Maybe YOU will spend your 'hard earned money' to watch the NBA, but I certainly will not. And looks like a lot of other people are finding better things to do with their time than watch the NBA on teevee:

From the New York Times:
N.B.A.: T.V. SPORTS -- N.B.A. FINALS; Ratings Decline By 40 Percent

Article Tools Sponsored By
By RICHARD SANDOMIR
Published: June 29, 1999

The National Basketball Association finals recorded their lowest Nielsen ratings since 1981, when the Houston-Boston series generated only a 6.7.

The five-game Knicks-San Antonio series generated an 11.3 average rating, down 40 percent from last year's 18.7 for the Chicago-Utah finals.

NBC had hoped that the first finals without Michael Jordan since 1995 would experience a ratings drop of between 20 percent and 30 percent.

Game 5 last Friday produced an 11.0 rating, down 44 percent from the 19.8 for last year's comparable game, and the second-lowest of the series. Each national rating point equals 994,000 television households.

The New York market posted a 20.2 rating, which means that 1.36 million television households watched some part of the game. In San Antonio, the 51.6 rating equates to 344,559 households. RICHARD SANDOMIR

The Harris Poll:
October 28, 2004
College Football now more popular than NBA
The Harris Poll, a yearly gauge as to the likes of America's sports fans, has found that College football, for the first time in a decade, has moved ahead of the NBA as the America's third most favorite sport.

Deseret News:
Did poor TV ratings spur NBA agreement?
Deseret News (Salt Lake City), Jun 24, 2005 by Scott D. Pierce Deseret Morning News

Is it just a coincidence? Probably. But do you suppose that the generally lousy ratings ABC has been getting for the NBA Finals had anything to do with the owners and the players agreeing to a new collective bargaining agreement, thus avoiding any sort of work stoppage?

It's at least possible that the continued decline in TV ratings had something to do with the agreement. The last thing either side would want to do is drive more fans away and kill the golden goose - - the huge amount of money pumped into the league by its TV contracts.

That may be the only good thing to come out of this year's playoffs, however, at least as far as television is concerned. It's nothing short of ludicrous that ABC is touting the ratings of the Spurs-Pistons series by comparing the numbers to the 2003 Finals -- the lowest-rated in history.

Gee, the ratings are bad . . . but they've been worse!

Mediaweek:
NBA Reg-Season Ratings Decline

Megan Larson

APRIL 25, 2005 -

Without a dominant team to spike audience levels, ratings for the regular-season games of the National Basketball Association dropped across TNT, ESPN and ABC. But network executives insist that with talent now spread evenly across the teams, more competitive matchups could lead to a longer playoff season.

For the regular season, TNT's NBA coverage fell 7 percent to a 1.3 household rating from a 1.4; ESPN dropped to a 1.2 from a 1.3 last year; and ABC fell a point to a 2.3.

And you're talking about the Europeans playing simplistic basketball?? The USA team was stumped by guys running a pick and roll, for Pete's sake! It doesn't get any simpler than the staple play of the NBA: playing one-on-one and running down the lane, bowling over everybody in your path, taking 7-8 steps to get there, followed by a hop-through, and a dunk. Talk about simple!
smiley36.gif

The USA hasn't won an international championship since 1994. That's TWELVE YEARS. They're losing to teams right now that do not even have a player on an NBA team roster!!

well, the USA finally hit a jump shot, and i think it gave the guys from Argentina a near-heart attack.
smiley36.gif
the USA takes third place. it's funny, though, how Argentina was probably the team the US thought was the best other team in the tourney, but they've only got two players who get minutes in the NBA: Ginobili and Nocioni.

my question: if the NBA players are really so talented, why are the teams filled with non-NBA talent so darn good?

"....it was a predominatly white team that won, with a half black/half Greek player."

Half nothing;even if one of his parents is White,it still looks 100% black, therefore not Greek in any sense of the word.To say it is is an abomination and insult to Greeks.

The American team won the Bronze by defeating Argentina. It appears they won the game by the usual methods. I am so cynical about the Caste System and it's far reaching tentacles, that it's hard for me to accept anything at face value. In the near future the international game will resemble the NBA and the Euro teams will be comprised mostly.of blacks.

A snip from an article found at Yahoo:

Argentina (7-2) was trying for its third straight medal in a major event after winning silver in the 2002 worlds and gold two years ago in Athens -- with victories over the U.S. during both.

But the Argentines couldn't overcome foul trouble to Manu Ginobili, Fabricio Oberto and Luis Scola, the mainstays of those teams. All three spent significant time on the bench in the second half.

( Could you envision Dwayne Wade, LeBron James and Anthony all in foul trouble sitting on the bench in a medal game?)

Though Argentina was called for 12 more fouls than the Americans, Ginobili refused to blame the officials.

"They probably had a better game than we did," the San Antonio Spurs star said. "They had nothing to do with the result."

(No, of course not!)

Ginobili didn't make a field goal until midway through the fourth quarter and finished with 10 points. Scola led Argentina with 19 points and Andres Nocioni, who plays for the Chicago Bulls, scored 18.

The officiating still did favor the U.S. team, though it was not as blatant as NBA officiating against white players. They actually replayed nearly every call that was made and in the first half the refs only got 4 calls on my count wrong - all of them favoring the U.S.. If you watch NBA officiating nearly every other call is wrong.
Bart, I also worry that the international game will soon start to be officiated like the NBA.
Nearly every call that was made against the U.S. players was met with heated arguement as if someone had just committed a hate crime. That fact that they (black players) blatantly argue everything even obvious calls I think wears on the refs and they start questioning their own judgement.
The bottom line is that the U.S. game (black game) is about trying to draw contact and get the benefit of the call, while the international (white) game is about real basketball skills.

The white players played simplistic basketball according to McBride. Well, even the most simple of plays was too damn confusing for dullards who've played the game their entire lives! Talk about SIMPLETONS !

Yahoo The Greeks did one thing beautifully in this game: the pick-and-roll. ..."They ran like one play the whole game," Wade said.

Spain tore up Greece in the WCOB championship game. even without Pau Gasol available, the Spanish dominated from the start and Greece never got closer than 16 in the second half.

Jorge Garbajosa and Juan-Carlos Navarro scored 20 points each, and Pau's little brother Marc and Felipe Reyes dominated "Baby Shaq", holding him to just 2 points. Spain's quick guards and smothering defense was the story of the game. unlike when they played the USA and scored seemingly at will, the Greeks never scored more than 13 points in any quarter and shot just 33% from the floor for the game.

Gasol was named Tournament MVP after averaging team highs of 21.3 points, 9.4 rebounds and 2.4 blocks in the first eight games.
smiley32.gif

Spain is the first nation to win a World Championship or an Olympics with a spotless mark since Team USA in 2000.
smiley32.gif

Dirk was the second leading scorer in the tourney with 23.2 per, behind only Yao Ming's 25.3.

Even without Gasol they crushed Greece? What would Spain have done to Le Bron and company? So Pau Gasol is named the tournament MVP on the teamthat won thechampionship of the entire *&%*# WORLD !!

Let me bring up one of my old posts with a comment fromCaste System basketball ( non ) expert Charlie Rosen. I just have to rub it in.

Pau Gasol has been playing very well, having anothernice game last night,14-24, 36Pts 8Rebs, 3Assists He's averaging just about 20 points, 9 rebounds and 41/2 assists per game. I thought he was doing very well until I read Charlie Rosen's assessment of him.

Rosen: Gasol is simply too slow, too mechanical and too limited to be the go-to scorer on any team that wants to challenge for a championship.

I was listening to a local sports-talk show on the radio the other day, and the topic was "who do you blame?" for the USA loss. To my amazement, one of the hosts/jock-sniffers said something that I've been saying for years, that the NBA is not about team basketball anymore, it is all about entertainment, which has roots going all the way back to "Dr. J," gained full-blown momentum with "Magic and Showtime," until reaching the sad state of "Michael," which continues, to this day. It's not about teams, it's not about teamwork, it's ALL about individuals. Which is why the greatest athletes can't win anymore. And I just love it!!

I'm surprised they're not blaming the loss on the small contingent of white players that were on the team this year.

I actually thought the US might win or lose a squeeker because they were playing a "white" style of ball. Also they brought in some role players. But not being able sink shots from the charity line probably was the reason they lost to Greece.....
