Van Der Vyer comes from a family of sprinters. His brother, Marthinus took bronze in the 110M HH at the World Youth Championships in 2001 and his mother was a leading sprinter for SA in the 70s. Wilhelm is definitely someone to watch... SA track & field article Marthinus's youth record

Four white athletes appeared on a recent (6/20/08) top 10 overall athletes list published in the WSJ. Decathlete Roman Sebrle was the #1 ranked athlete. Jeremy Wariner ranked #8 on the list. Although the makeup of the list can be challenged, I like the list more than dislike it because...

    Joe Calzaghe vs. Bernard Hopkins

The CompuBox Punch Stats indicate that the split decision was unfair to Calzaghe who should have been awarded a unanimous decision. I thought that Hopkins fought a boring, uninspired and weasel-like fight with his incessant holding and his pretending to be hit by a low blow. He should have been...

2007 World Championships of Track & Field

Jeremy Wariner's victory and new PB in the 400m is a terrific achievement and a great example for white sprinters. His 43.45 time puts him ahead of Quincy Watts on the all time best 400m list. Wariner is now the 3rd fastest 400m sprinter in history and has the fifth fastest time ever run...

    2007 NFL Draft

You're right, this is a classic and an infuriating caste review of an incredibly talented and versatile player. This prospect profile is also inconsistent and self-contradictory. In the first sentence of the analysis, the analyst states that JW could play weakside LB by bulking up 10 lbs! The...

    Jeff Samardzija

Ed McCaffrey was fast. Ed MCaffrey was outstandingly fast in spite of the horrendously innaccurate and negative observations of his speed and ability that were made by broadcast commentators during his career. He was timed at 4.38 (more than once) for the 40 yard dash by the San Diego Chargers...

Absolutely! Edwards was terrific and in addition to being a great jumper was a fast runner. I think of him and his world record every time I hear the falsehood about white men not being able to jump.
