    Black invention myths

Quite agree nordic_miler. Walker was the first man to run 100! sub 4s. Man, how many guys wouldn't give a body part to have just one of those?

    Black invention myths

Folding legs...is that the diference? I'm going to make three guesses as to who is pictured in your avatar nordi_miler: John Walker, Steve Scott or .... no one else is coming to mind that I think it could be so I'll say Tom Byers since he did have a long flowing mane.

    High School Junior David Klech

David Klech is competing in the World Youth Championships in Marrakech. He ran 51.84 in his 400 hurdles heat which was the world leading youth time. It was later bested by a Kenyan and a Saudi running 51.40. Should be a terrific final.

    Federation Cup

Venus Williams has followed up her Wimbledon victory with a loss to Myskina in the Fed Cup. The U.S. is down 0-2( best of 5) since Mashona Washington(?) lost her match to Dementieva. This is the semi-final round and the matches are being played in Moscow so the Russians do have the home...

    Andrew Rock

Welcome aboard nordic-miler. I take it from the above post that you are currently in high school? It's good to see some younger folk join the board. WL, your comment regarding Rock echoes my sentiments. He really comes to race and gives it his all each time out.

    Not a Parody II

I just thought it was mildly amusing that he referred to the Williams sisters as twins. Don't be so sensitive. If there are any two sisters that I would not mistake for twins it is them.

    Not a Parody II

200 meter king Shawn Crawford in latest issue of Track & Field News when asked about favorite athletes to watch: "I like to see the Williams twins kick ass."

    Michelle Wie -Men’s Tour

I can't get too worked up about the issue but it does seem to be just a gimmicky attention getter. I think that people will tire of the novelty especially as Bart's scenario plays out. Also, if the best women are routinely beaten by mediocre men, the women's game will seem diminished and that...

    High School Junior David Klech

Senior-to-be Klech ran in the Golden West Invitational last month. This is one of the big high school invitationals every summer. He won the 110's in 13.90 and the 300H in 36.63.

    Wimbledon thread

Easy Sunshine. I would say Davenport has been a "lard butt" but she certainly pulled herself together in the latter stages of her career and I think has acquited herself quite nicely. Obviously she is no gym rat but her talent must be at least a little bit bigger than her rump. Federer is a...

    Craig Pickering

Pickering's motivation for achieving his stated goal of winning the 2012 Olympics can't be hurt by London being named host city.

    The fastest Russian.................

Russia is still suffering re: population. Russia is one of the few nations on earth that actually loses population each year to the tune of about 750,000 to 1,000,000. Life expectancy for males has dropped quite dramatically in the the past 10-15 years. It amazes me that Russian athletes still...

    NBA Draft

Posted elsewhere I know but his traducing of Bogut is in character when you consider that this is the coach who said Utah's program couldn't compete for a national championship because it couldn't recruit the quality of athlete needed. This was said the week his Utah team was in the national...

    My take on this site

SteveB, your anecdote about the black kid that seemingly lost his way is a perfect(horrible?) example of what are referred to as the culture wars. Multiculturalists make a fetish out of being non-judgmental regarding "cultures" or what are more accurately called sub-cultures. You could...

    My take on this site

The evolutionary processes in shaping peoples are in greatest evidence in Africa. Pygmies, Watusis and other homogeneous groups that have quite distinct characteristics seem to be evidence of such a process. For whatever reason, sub-Saharan Africa never advanced beyond tribalism. Trying to...

    My take on this site

Good points Bart. The difference between a wolf's genetic makeup and the domestic dog is almost negligible yet I'm not sure I'd risk taming it and trusting it to not become feral and see me as easy pickings.

    Craig Pickering

Good job on finding that article WL. He has the confidence that a sprinter needs but without the jarring abrasiveness that so many *******y sprinters exhibit. He also has his eyes wide open and knows what he is up against. Man, this kid has me really excited about the 100.

    America & Soccer

The US under 20 team beat Argentina in their group in the World Youth Championships. They won 1-0 and played opportunistically and should have won 2-0 but Freddy "much Adu about nothing" missed a penalty kick in the 70th minute. They play Germany on Tuesday I think.

    My take on this site

We were terrible. There are four junior highs in Lawton of comparable size (ours was the biggest) and the other three all kicked our butts and all had integrated backfields. At least two of the whites prevented from competing at RB started as RBs in high school. They transferred to cross-town...
