    2023 U.S. Open

They just ejected some guy from the stadium during the Zverev v Sinner match because Zverev claimed he heard someone yell 'Hitler's most famous" words. Who knows if he actually heard that or if the wrong guy was ejected. Of course, alcohol during long matches can lead to all kinds of fan...

The decline of tennis in the USA

In today's NY Times: "Francis Tiafoe Is Ready To Win the US Open and Make Tennis Cool" I guess tennis won't be cool because he's not winning this tournament.

    Novak Djokovic

Djokovic plays Carlos Alcaraz in the Masters (Cincinnati) final this afternoon. Given Novak's age (36) this rivalry between the best of the last era (of all time really) and Alcaraz, the man to beat for the next decade, will not be a long term rivalry like with Nadal/Federer/Djokovic/Murray. So...

this is the best play i've ever seen. if you've seen a better one, please post it. Glad they didn't determine that to be offside. I've seen some really questionable offside (& penalty) calls since VAR was introduced, such as part of a player's arm not being level with the last defender. I...

    2023 IndyCar Season

Historically, Indycar was big in the US MidWest but split in two in the mid-1990s into the US-focussed Indy Racing League (IRL) and the more international, but US-based, Champ Car series (CART). The latter had considerable appeal in other parts of North America in the early 2000s and was also...

    2023 Wimbledon

Great match. I was hoping Djokovic would win if for no other reason than to rub MSM noses in it, as they've been particularly hateful of late. Apparently the British commentator Andrew Castle - a former very minor player from the 80s - was so negative towards everything Djokovic did several...

    2023 IndyCar Season

Watching the Toronto race - first Indycar race I've seen in years - and I must say the aesthetic quality of the cars has deteriorated. Those 'windshields' are terrible looking. I can't believe Castroneves is still driving. For a second I thought Bryan Herta was too, but it turns out to be his...

    2023 Wimbledon

Another day at Wimbledon, another day of the crowd slobbering over a black American (Eubanks) and a North African (Ons Jabeur). Wimbledon now giving the NYC-based US Open competition for worst fans in tennis. The malleable masses take their cues from the media, and from there we see the results...

    2023 Wimbledon

Belarusian Viktoria Azarenka just got booed by the Wimbledon crowd because they thought she was a bad sport for not shaking hands with Svitolina after losing. In reality it is the Ukrainian Svitolina who refuses to shake hands with Russian or Belarusian. Anyone who follows the sport would know...

    2023 Wimbledon

I've noticed the crowds have been less than friendly towards Djokovic. Wimbledon crowds are a bit like US Open fans in NYC in that they seem to be more into celebrities and the occasion than the sport itself. Djokovic was always disliked for disrupting the careers of fan favourites Federer &...

    2023 Wimbledon

Andy Murray is a feminist, BLM supporting, Scottish "nationalist" (who lives in England, with its lower taxes for millionaires like him). He was also incredibly sanctimonious towards Djokovic over the latter's principled stand against compulsory vaccinations. Personally, I want Murray to lose...

    Novak Djokovic

Two unbelievable sets of tennis between Djokovic and Alcarez - one set apiece - before the Spaniard got cramps. The wily veteran made Alcarez run more - something commentator Jim Courier pointed out before he got cramps - and ended up with a 3-1 set victory. Whether he plays Zverev or Ruud he'll...

    Novak Djokovic

I've also been watching too. Alvarez has looked sharper than Djokovic and is the rightfully the bookies favourite but I don't think I'd ever bet against the Serb. I agree with icsept though that time is on Alcarez's side but Djokovic has a better chance at Wimbledon or the US Open to break the...

In the last month I've been in five European countries and Canada. Covid didn't even come up. I'd almost forgotten about it. It's over. Over everywhere... except in the Land of the Free, and maybe China. Relatives of mine recently visited Florida where they had to submit documents about...

    2022 NFL Week 18

It was for this I've literally only watched 10 minutes of NFL this season, or last season, and that's what I saw - a player pushing medical staff on the field. IOW things haven't changed much. Same old boorish NFL.

    2022 FIFA World Cup

You are right. The Germans have a record of very poor sportsmanship in football. I can remember their cheating & other bad behaviour going all the way back to the 1982 World Cup. Scandinavians and the British (the French & Belgians too) used to have a sense of fair play. Not so much anymore.

Really? In Northern Europe I think this is seen - perhaps hypocritically - as poor sportsmanship.

Probably just rugby league (rugby à XIII) in New South Wales. Lebanon itself has never - to my knowledge - produced any great athletes despite being wealthy until the civil war in the 1970s. Neither has ethnically similar but larger Syria. They are all football crazy and unlike small European...

It's interesting that North Africans are better than MidEast Arabs like Jordanians/Syrians/Lebanese/Iraqis - who might be as bad as Indians/Pakistanis at sport. It must be due to Berber ethnic origins or admixture.
