Tonight (Friday) the NFL Network premieres the "Top 10 Quarterbacks of the 70s" at 10pm ET. It repeats several times Saturday and Sunday. The promo reads:
"From 'Snake' Stabler to Roger Staubach and Terry Bradshaw, a countdown of the best field generals of the 70's"
Former LB Chris Spielman is the subject of tonight's (Wednesday) episode, running the rest of the week. Next week is an all-time favorite: Jimmy Johnson.
On Tuesday night, ESPN showed "Ghosts of Ole Miss" on "30 for 30." It covers the 1962 James Meredith integration riots but also the undefeated (all white) Ole Miss football team. Pretty much the usual White Guilt theme, but several football clips of the 1962 team along with interviews of several...
The 1998 National Championship team had only two white starters, both offensive linemen. Freshman DE Will Overstreet played a fair amount as a reserve and was a starter the next year.
Will Overstreet played two years (2002-2003) for the Atlanta Falcons after being a 3rd round draft choice. He...
Thank you for posting. I've never played, but per my name am a serious student of sports history, especially football which I have observed since 1958.
I generally agree with much of what you say. Sometimes the members don't like my posts either as I try to be objective, something some folks...
The Eagles are a team on which QB seems to have been a "black" position for a long time. It will be interesting to see if they draft another one in an early round this year.

Tonight's episode is "Fearsome Foursome": "The life and times of arguably the greatest defensive line in football history."
Next week will be: "The life and legacy of the late, great Steve McNair."
Harrison Smith is from Knoxville, TN and Knoxville Catholic High School. He supposedly had offers from the University of Tennessee, but (probably wisely) went to Notre Dame.
I suspect that playing high school football in Knoxville and colege ball at Notre Dame taught him to stand his ground...

You have to consider that some of these runners had careers that straddled the...
"Cabrera was just fortunate to have had his good year when the rest of the league didn't perform as well."
You could say the same about Frank Robinson's triple crown year in 1966 and Carl Yaszstremski's in 1967.
