    NFL 2013-14 Playoff thread

The NFL had the bright idea of holding a Super Bowl in the New York area at night on February 2. At best, the temperature will likely be in the twenties. The field is artificial turf.

Is Peyton Manning the greatest QB of all-time?

I would rank Peyton Manning number one, for both peak performance and longevity.

    NFL 2013-14 Playoff thread

A poster at the Pro Football Researchers Association Forum just wrote that "Belichick's system is about structure rather than talent." He claims that Tom Brady's success is due to "the system." Something of a DWF observation.

Most of the time in these situations, the suspect isn't even arrested. I assume the evidence is strong.

I remember Joe Walton being described in the sports media as an offensive genius. The teams he coached on never won anything. Walton was an undersized TE with the 1961-63 New York Giants and I recall seeing him play. The NFL seems to think the slowest black RB is better than the fastest and...

Attention Bigunreal! Jerry Smith, A Football Life

Next Tuesday, January 21 at 9 pm ET, the NFL Network has "A Football Life" episode on the late Redskin receiver, Jerry Smith. The theme of the show (from the promo) appears to be Smith's homosexuality and how he kept it hidden. Smith is shown to be a very good football player.

    Yes, Landry was the exception.

    NFL 2013-14 Playoff thread

I first attended an SEC game (University of Tennessee) in 1964 and saw the transition first hand. You would see men in suit and tie and women in their best dress. The fashion of "dressing down" began around 1970-71. Male fans started dressing in outlandish costumes at Tennessee games around...

    NFL 2013-14 Playoff thread

Yes, in the 70's the coaches generally wore a windbreaker and ball cap (before it was suit and tie). The current slob posture started in the 80's as you say.

    NFL 2013-14 Playoff thread

If Peyton Manning wins the Super Bowl with the Broncos, he will be the first QB ever to take two teams to Super Bowl championships. The only QB ever to win NFL championships with different teams was Norm Van Brocklin with the 1951 Rams and 1960 Eagles in the pre-Super Bowl era. The knock on...

Why didn't this happen in last year's Super Bowl?

    NFL 2013-14 Playoff thread

Absolutely. Cold weather on a home field is no longer the advantage it was for Lombardi's Packers in 1967.

    NFL 2013-14 Playoff thread

Two road teams have won this weekend. We hope Green Bay wins in a reversion to form.

Woodhead would do very well if he was the first string runner and received 15-20 carries a game. In this way would "be used more effectively." You're the one making a "pathetic argument."

    NFL 2013-14 Playoff thread

A "whopping total of five yards" is all Woodhead needed. You're the one who keeps bringing up Jim Brown.

And Woodhead scored the TD by "going up the gut."

    New HBO Lombardi Documentary

So what? Especially in those days a fullback's job was to "run a lot up the gut." Also a FB ran traps and draws, which fairly often broke for big gains.

    Is Aaron Rogers a homosexual?

On an NFL team, the punter is lowest on the totem pole. Unless he is a Ray Guy, the punter is disposable and casually replaced. By the way, do you think Kluwe would "speak out" about black racists?

    NFL Week 17

The term "finish off a run" was used in the SEC when it was all white.

    New HBO Lombardi Documentary

The A Football Life series has been put on DVD. It will take several months for the Lombardi episodes to be available, but they will be.

    New HBO Lombardi Documentary

The team that Lombardi inherited in 1959 had won only one game the year before. Eventually, 13 players who had been on the 1-10-1 1958 Packers either made the Pro Bowl or Hall of Fame. Part Two is on Tuesday night and the rest of the week.

    NFL Week 16

Yes, whites who live in almost all white areas, or have had little interaction with blacks often tend to be "racially liberal."
