The second event of the 2026 PGA Tour season, The American Express-La Quinta, CA., has World Number 1 Scottie Scheffler with a 2 stroke lead with 10 holes to go.
1. Scheffler -25 thru 8
2. Putnam -23
T4 Day -21
Without many of the top players in the world playing, Scheffler should finish this one off with another win! As stated, he should further pad his World Number 1 ranking and it's not even really close as number 2 Rory McIIroy. A distant second.

World Golf Rankings
1. Scheffler 16.01
2. McIIroy 8.88
3. Fleetwood 5.41
4. Schauffele 4.70
5. Henley 4.70

Should Scheffler go on to win today, it would be his 20th career PGA Tour win. He has held the World Number 1 position for over 150 weeks total and 100+ consecutively. He has won four Major Championships and only needs to win the US Open to win the career slam.

Scheffler will win The American Express and get his 20th career win.. He will further cement his place as World number 1. He should be there for a long time as there is no one really close. Hoping he'll somehow approach Tiger Woods record of 281 consecutive weeks and 683 total weeks. I believe Scheffler has been number 1 for 100+ weeks consecutively and 150 total.

If Scheffler can keep averaging one major (or more) for another decade he just might challenge Tiger's mark of 15 of them, which is second best all time. He has the talent, the main factor is if he has the drive as he already has all the money he'll ever need and he's also devoted to his wife and child and likely more children to come.

Would love to see him challenge Woods for second all time, and yes he's already working on child number two as his wife was visibly pregnant just off the green after he won today.
Right about the money too. He went $100 million in career earnings with this win! $20 million more which is very possible this year and he passes Woods for that record. Not to mention his endorsement money!

Scheffler was very impressive at the American Express championship. Amazing ball striking, he can move the ball either way and when his putting is good virtually unbeatable. Among his accolades from the win yesterday:

Only 3rd player (Nicklaus & Woods) to have 20 wins, 4+ majors before 30 years old
2nd fastest under 30 (behind Woods) to reach 20 wins.

Justin Rose wins the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines by 7 shots. It's his 15th career PGA win and at the age of 45 the most strokes he's won a tournament by.

Meanwhile overseas, Patrick Reed has been red hot, finishing first and second the past two weeks on the European tour. After his win, he announced his intention to leave LIV and return to the PGA Tour. He will be eligible to return in the fall.

Brooks Koepka recently left LIV and is already playing on the PGA Tour. He'll be at the Phoenix Open (Waste Management Open) this week, which is always a madhouse with literally hundreds of thousands of mostly drunk fans cheering and booing shots.

So Reed is the second big name defection from LIV. Hopefully the end of LIV isn't far away, or alternatively some kind of merger with the PGA can finally be worked out that gets all the stars back playing together again.

Collin Morikawa wins the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am by a single shot. It's his first PGA Tour win in over two years and seventh overall, two of them majors. Scottie Scheffler started the last round eight shots behind then shot a spectacular 63 that included three eagles, the first time he had ever done that in a round, but he fell two shots short.

We have a long running thread called the "Lee Park Golf Association or LPGA," about the longstanding Asian dominance of the female tour, but maybe we need to start one for the men. After today's tournament this is the current FedEx Cup standings for 2026:

3. Collin Morikawa
4. Hideki Matsuyama
7. Si Woo Kim
8. Ryo Hisatsune
10. Min Woo Lee

That's five Asians in the top ten.

Asian takeover of the PGA tour? And Anthony Kim won the LIV tournament. I’m still confident that White men will prevail.

I'm not too worried about it either. This early in the new PGA season it's basically a fluke, sort of like when a career .250 hitter is leading the league in batting average in April, almost invariably falling back to earth as the season goes along. But it is a trend to follow, along with the rise of some Indian-Americans on the tour in recent years.

Ludvig Aberg of Sweden leads The Players Championship after three rounds at -13, three shots ahead of Michael Thorbjornsen and four shots ahead of Cameron Young. Justin Thomas, Viktor Hovland, Xander Schauffele, Matt Fitzpatrick, Corey Conners and Brian Harman are all five shots back at -8.

Scottie Scheffler again stumbled out of the gate as he has been doing in recent tournaments and is well back at -4 even after shooting five under today. Defending champion Rory McIlroy has been battling a bad back and is way back at +1.

The Players usually has the strongest field of any golf tournament and this year 56 of the 60 top ranked players in the world are in the field. Aberg has been an instant star and is only 26 but superstardom has been widely predicted for him and this would be his biggest win thus far if he closes the deal tomorrow. Aberg is likeable and currently lives in Duvall County where the tournament is taking place so he has a lot of support from the spectators. There are even some drunk Swedish fans sporting Viking horns following him around.

Justin Thomas had back surgery and only recently returned to the tour, shooting 79-79 last week, so his strong showing in this premier event is great to see as he remains one of the most popular players on the PGA Tour.

Of the players in the field, all are White except for a sprinkling of Asians. It shouldn't be forgotten that the arrival of Tiger Woods on tour in 1996 was supposed to herald an effortless black takeover of golf. And here we are 30 years later and there isn't a single top black player on tour. Pre-Woods there were at least some such as Lee Elder, Charlie Sifford, Jim Dent and Calvin Peete. But now, nada. And Woods himself is so broken physically that it's unlikely he'll ever play on the senior tour even if he wants to, even though Brandel "Tiger" Chamblee and Rich "Tiger" Lerner still faithfully pine for their fallen hero on air all the time.

And I saw but two blacks among the 50,000 or so spectators, one of them being Derrick Henry. There's not too many places or events of that size or even considerably smaller left in America that are essentially black-free.
