It's hard to know when this first round bust is on IR or not, so weak has been his production. And remember that this is the loser that Trey Hendrickson had to ride the bench behind for three full seasons in New Orleans, another great example of how terrible the NFL's "scouting" is and how pathetic and grossly unfair racial apprenticeships are thanks to the league's religious-like devotion to the artificial construct known as the Caste System. Lions placed EDGE Marcus Davenport (chest) on injured reserve. Davenport reportedly couldn’t do much with his arm on Friday, up to and including working a lever on a recliner, so this is not a shock placement. The 29-year-old has been with the Lions in each of the last two seasons and the Vikings in 2023, and he has played just eight total games over that timespan. We often feel obligated to do the “he’ll miss at least the next four games” bit of the blurb, but that’s sort of just implied with Davenport.

Second round draft pick two years ago:

Dolphins waived CB Cam Smith. The 2023 second-rounder was on the non-football injury list. He managed just 155 snaps over two years with the Dolphins and will go down as a big whiff by Chris Grier with the 51st overall pick. Smith will look to catch on elsewhere once healthy.

Had no idea who this player was. Apparently he started his rookie season, after being an early 4th round pick. But once Mike Vrabel showed up, he was immediately benched, then eventually cut. Drake Maye is the only sophomore member of the 2024 Draft class to see the field this season for the Patriots. A sumo from Ben Franklin's Penn State (3rd round) is barely hanging on to a roster spot -- inactive all season. So they drafted O-Lineman 3rd and 4th round in 2024 and neither is good enough to play a single snap under Vrabel


Fascinating comments in the link above. Fans are okay (not happy!) with the 2024 draft, because it brought them Drake Maye. Also, they seem particularly upset with Eli Wolf, who is the de-facto GM of the Patriots. They think he's an awful talent evaluator and are grateful Vrabel took a more active role in the last draft. Wolf is the son of ex-Packers GM Ron Wolf, who always had a very strong penchant for pretty much only drafting and signing black players at "black positions" during his 1990's tenure. Eli Wolf, by the way, has always been touted as been as a "brilliant" talent evaluator by media "types". Fellow lonsmen, like Adam Schefter and Adam Schein, have been especially lavish in their praise.

Find it fascinating Eli Wolf selected Joe Milton in the same draft as Drake Maye? Wolf Sr. had a very unique penchant for drafting a QB almost every year in 1990's, despite having superstar Brett Favre on the roster? He did this, figuring the Walrus (Holmgren) was such a QB guru, that he would develop them as backups, then trade them (to start) for future higher draft picks. List of successful draft and trade ups included Mark Brunnell, Tim Hasselbach and Aaron Brooks.

This does not happen much anymore, as teams do not develop QB's. They simply select them in round one, hand them the job and hope for the best. If that QB "busts", they either take a chance on an ex-1st round "bust" to start or move onto the next over-hyped first rounder, approved by ESPN and others members of the Draft Industrial Complex.
