Do any of you guys ride bicycles? They're amazing exercise and great for building stamina. Even just casually riding a bicycle for an hour burns 500+ calories. Outside of riding them, they're really fun to tinker with because they're mechanically simple with parts cheaply and readily available.

I've been thinking of getting a bike to use as an alternate workout option as opposed to running. Trying to keep my knees intact.

I don’t do it seriously but I do a few miles each weekend or try to at least. It’s possible to spend upwards of 5k on a good bike but I can’t justify that in my own mind. I agree though it’s a great way to decompress and get some exercise in. I don’t care for stationary exercise bikes. I do enjoy the old school kind though!

My go to for cheap bikes is to buy a mostly intact Japanese steel bike from the 1980s bike boom, and upgrade to your preferences. My current favorite bike was $150 for an old Univega and $200 for a new headset, bottom bracket, brakes, chain, saddle and pedals.

I bought a cheap Schwann a couple years back and been riding it for a while now. I think I paid 159 bucks for it which is funny considering when I was a kid it seemed like Schwann was a premium brand but I suppose they aren’t the same firm anymore.

Interesting idea you have though! Enjoy the cycling weather!
