Since 2005, the Tar Heels have had 9, 8, 5, 7, 4, 5, 4, 3, 6, 8, and 10 white players, with no write-up done in 2013. Sophomore QB Nathan Elliott is currently in a battle with two blacks to be UNC's QB. Although between former LSU QB Brandon Harris (who couldn't hit the broad side of a barn) and magical upside-laden Chazz Surratt, I'm going to guess Vermont will vote for Donald Trump before Elliott actually sees time this year, especially given how QB battles between whites and blacks have been going this year. WR Austin Proehl (son of former NFL WR Ricky), will get to start his senior year after waiting behind dynamo WR Ryan Switzer. 6-4 250 lb Jr. Brandon Fritts returns to man the TE position, and should see his fair share of targets along with Proehl (being as Harris likes to check down; whether he can hit them or not is quite a different story). LT Bentley Spain has been a multi-year starter for the Tar Heels and has been an anchor for them; he should get an NFL shot.

On defense, the picture is bleak as ever for a Southern team. DE Tyler Powell and WLB Cole Holcomb start, but are the only two whites on the two deep. A decrease down to 8 (likely 7) white starters this year for the Tar Heels. Backups on offense are VERY sparse, with nobody on the two deep besides three backup linemen. Last year was a VERY rare year for UNC, in double digit white starters and featuring playmaker Ryan Switzer, the best offensive threat on the field for UNC. Don't expect to see that again for awhile. Rather, expect the Tar Heels to go back down to where they were, around 4-5 white starters within 1-2 years.
