Chris van Heerden's best win to date came yesterday against Kaizer Mabuza.

Chris van Heerden beat Kaizer Mabuza on a unanimous decision to win the vacant IBO welterweight belt at Emperors Palace, Kempton Park, on Saturday night.

The scores were 117-112, 116-113 and 114-113.

The main bout of the tournament presented by Golden Gloves promoter Rodney Berman turned into a war that must certainly be chosen as the Fight of the Year.

The 24-year-old Van Heerden, the African Boxing Union and SA welterweight champion, and Mabuza, 30, a former SA and IBF Intercontinental junior welterweight champion, produced a classic after an action-packed undercard.
