2026 European Championships

Amy Hunt qualified fastest for the 100m final in 10.99 (and looked happy on seeing another sub-11!). Usual mediocre start but came powering through in the second half. Final in about an hour.
 
Jakob Ingebrigtsen comes through on the home stretch to win the 5000m, despite just returning from surgery. One of the truly great middle/long distance runners of all time.
 
Amy Hunt wins! 11.00 dead. Svoboda second in 11.02. I was sure Amy would win after 30 metres: she wasn't far behind, and her top end speed brought her through.

So happy that Amy Hunt didn't up like Charlie Dobson. Early in her career she struggled to stay healthy but at 24 now is really looking
outstanding. I love to see it. Happy for Swoboda but she must be sad as she has won the silver medal in big races a few times now. She should still be proud as she put Polish Sprinting on the Map. Sad for Geraldine de Tizio Frey who missed bronze by 1/100th of a second. Our ladies just missed the sweep but still took 3 of the top 4. Also they took 4 of the fastest 6 sprinters. Long Live Europe!
 
I hope van der weken takes a break now as she races far too much each season. At least this time Dina Asher Smith didn't avoid Hunt after the race unlike in the semis, she comes across as a very jealous person..

Dobson out of the 400, 4th in his semifinal. He was a real phenom in the 200 as a youngster, then for some reason moved to 400, had injuries, and has become an also-ran. Sad.

Nadine Visser just won the women's 100m hurdles in a photo-finish over a Polish athlete whose name I won't even attempt to spell. 1/1000th of a second between them. The Dutch are the most aesthetic people: tall, leggy, strong, beautiful. Visser, Lieke Klaver, Myrte van der Schoot: actual Amazons!

Tentoglou just became 4-time European champ in the long jump, well clear at 8.44m.

Men's 100m coming up, but sadly no good white competitors.

yep, she's a 5'10" 200m sprinter ...... she does. do 60s now to get her starts better but she'll never explode from the blocks. But as you implied, watch her storm home!
 
The European Men were just horrible this year in the sprints. The European Women were amazing. My hope is that the women will
inspire the men to greater heights. It's sad but at least it's not a World Champs or Olympics year. The next 2 years will show who
is ready and who is not? Currently none of the European Mens Sprinters are consistant enough to make noise. Hopefully that will
change soon.

Someone should set up a date between Amy Hunt and Lachlan Kennedy. Both attractive and the same height. Both are shining stars
in the Track World. Imagine them dating & making a family? Wow would those kids be fast! Just like White Lightning!

all the people we'd been excited about previously - Verherstraeten, Kopek, Hansen, Larsson, Ceccarelli, Volko, Hinchcliffe. .... all woeful,
Maybe they needed a few Australian Europeans over there like they have in that horrible Eurovision Song contest).
No-one better than 10.27
Jacobs would have walked that in if no injury.

Knowing current-day female hypergamy, she'd probably demand a minimum height of 6'4. But yeah it would be good to see: her and Lachlan, and Josh Kerr with Keely, to dominate sprints and middle distance.
 
Amy Hunt through fastest to the 200m final tomorrow: 22.38 and she was jogging at the end. Could be her Games.

The beautiful Emma Zapletalova just won the womens 400m hurdles, and my countrywoman Emily Newnham got silver with a big PB. A youngster at 22, one to watch. She'll be after the great former world and Olympic champion Sally Gunnell's national (former world) record.

Another youngster, just turned 23 Dutchman Jonas Phijffers with 400 bronze in a NR of 44.41, one hundredth away from silver which was won by a "French" athlete named "Mohammad Abdallah Kounta", which says it all.
 
that was a good result for Jonas Phijffers - he first got into the 44s a year ago at the Dutch championships and and this meet has twice lowered his best again. 44.41 is a solid result.

Molnar the Hungarian, 4th, continues to show quality too with another 44.50s run.

Similarly Jean-Paul Bredau, 5th, of Germany ran well and wasn't far off his 44.72 PB. He's just turned 27 and is still improving a little each year

If Phijffers had leaned hard at the line he gets second place and the silver medal, his coach needs to drill this into his brain for future tight races. Zapletaova won very easily and can go much faster. The Puerto Rican lady was full measure for third and you have to be happy for her, the reaction from her was priceless. Newman will be a burner in a few years. Lets you know how good Bol was and is at the 400m hurdles.
 
I think she is around 5'6" or 5'7" so she is okay height wise and she definitely has speed for days and endurance for days, with Bol doing the 800m now it opens the door in Europe in my opinion. It would be very interesting to see how she could do.
