Heavyweight contender Wladimir Klitschko was in court Thursday in an attempt to force the IBF the make him the organization's mandatory challenger to Chris Byrd. According to the Newark Star Ledger, Klitschko, who was demoted behind DaVarryl Williamson in the latest IBK rankings, stated "I cannot accept Williamson, who I recently beat, being mysteriously rated above me so that he will get my shot at the crown." IBF attorney Linda Torres stated that Klitschko squandered his chance for a title shot by facing an unranked fighter whereas Williamson beat a ranked opponent. The fights were Klitschko against unbeaten Eliceo Castillo in an HBO-televised fight. Williamson defeated Derrick Jefferson, who was rated 15th by the organization. She also said this is the first time a boxer has sued the IBF over rankings.
