I've been looking at all the boxing sites for ideas on when and who Wladimir Klitscko will fight next. Since the winner of the IBF tournament won't be known until probably early next year, there should be time for one more Wlad fight until then. On the one hand if he fought another European like Valuev, Chageav(if he gets healthy again), Liakachev, or Virchis, the advantage is that a white man is the winner for sure. On the other hand, do we want one of our guys to take a pummeling? So, maybe Tony the Tiger Thompson, who is the WBO mandatory challenger, might be a good fit, as he's upset that Ibragimov's camp picked Holyfield instead of him when Chagaev dropped out.

I've been wondering about this too...I would sooner see him fight again this year than wait until next year, especially since he only has a few more years at his peak.

I don't want him to fight a white guy. Here's a list of boxers who I think would be okay for a stay-busy fight:

*Shannon Briggs - this fight looks good on paper: they're about the same size (Briggs weighs a lot more, Wlad slightly taller), have a similar won-lost record and number of KOs (but Briggs has fought mostly clubfighters). This fight at Madison Square Gardens would make a lot of money and bring dome attention to boxing. (Confession: I want this because I would enjoy seeing the loud-mouthed Briggs knocked out!)

*Oliver McCall - former titleholder, never been knocked down, an interesting matchup...

*Hasim Rahman - he's fighting a clubfighter on Sep 7, and has said he wants to face Wladimir in his next matchup. Good name on Wlad's resume.

*Matt Skelton - has been calling Wlad out, has had three wins in a row, Commonwealth Heavyweight Champion.

JD - But all of those bongonian opponents are such obvious mismatches for Wlad. - ww

That is a paper thin list. McCall is interesting because of the iron chin factor and Wlad having punched himself out a few times against iron chinned guys. But beyond that. fight some of the younger guys or champions.....

I read he's not going to fight again until next year, but it may not be true, the article doesn't quote Wlad himself.

But if he does fight again, I hope it's against a black boxer. I don't care whether it's a young one or older one like McCall. I would like to see an end the myth of negro superiority in the ring, so the more of them he defeats the better...

For the sake of Wlad's own resume, I think Rahman (age 34, the man who KOed Lewis, former titleholder) would be a good choice for his 50th victory and 45th KO. Edited by: JD1986

Now that Chagaev has recovered and is back in training, I think there's a good chance for a unification fight between he and Wlad early next year.

There have been news stories during the past week that suggest David Tua will be Wlad's next opponent. Tua would be a poor choice, since he has never held a major title and is ranked about #30 among heavyweights. His name would add nothing to Wlad's legacy.Edited by: JD1986

I read that, too. They're just looking for another heavy hitter that they think will KO Wlad with one punch. He's already taken out Peter and Brewster, after those two there aren't many pure power punchers left in the heavyweight division who aren't named Klitschko.

I don't know about the fact that Tua has no pedigree or heavyweight history. In my mind he was the best heavyweight never to win a world title(of late 90's early 2000 era heavies)and better than most of the paper champions. The Tua that fights today is a shell of the Tua that fought Ike though.

Tua would surely be very dangerous to fight, and Wlad will get little credit for beating him. They'll just say Tua was over the hill, as usual.

Still, as the Chimp says, "Bring 'em on!"
