Will the Chargers give Hester a chance?

Now that the Chargers have cut L.T. after nine seasons, do they bring in some free agents, draft a running back high(maybe Gerhart) or just give Jacob Hester a chance? I think that even if they draft a guy, they need to give Jacob a chance to run the ball. I know Tolbert will probably ask for a chance. It's time for Hester to demand a chance. He has looked good in the preseason when he gets to run the ball. Hester and Sproles would give you the best of both worlds. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

If not, please draft Toby Gerhart!
 
I don't know about the Chargers drafting Toby. I think they would give the midget Sproles a starting job before that happens. Nfldraftscout says that Toby will run a 4.4 at the combine and prove his athleticism. I trust that thinking.
 
No chance of the Chargers drafting Gerhart, that would break the 1 or less maximum amount of white ball carriers allowed per NFL team. And sure with the way Hester has beed treated San Diego is a FINE place for him to go!

Good for the Chargers...getting rid of overrated, overhyped afflete "LaDAMEian Thomliscum". I doubt they'll bring in a White RB...probably another afrolete (who couldn't hold Toby's jock).

This may be Hesters best chance. Let's see what happens. Maybe they will even make a move to go after Peyton Hillis. They do know what he is capable of. I know both of these things happening are a slim chance but you never know. Hester needs to get in the shape of his life. We all know how strong he is, drop a few pounds and get his speed up to his college days.
 
Hester's now the last RB standing in San Diego. If ever he was going to assert his best interests rather than being content to be a "team player" now's the time. His fans in San Diego and elsewhere should get on the bandwagon too. The Chargers will obviously draft an RB early or sign one as a FA, but Hester should be in consideration for the number two spot, which on most teams these days means a fair amount of touches.


Chargers released RB Michael Bennett. Bennett, turning 32 before the start of the season, was due $1.25M in 2010. No better than a third or fourth running back on most rosters, Bennett will struggle to draw interest in free agency. The Chargers will still target an early-down back in free agency or the draft.
 
A dream situation here would be the Chargers drafting Gerhart and starting him with Hester as the backup who gets 5-10 carries every game. I can dream can't I?
 
If the Chargers draft Gerhart then they would have to give Hester some carries too IMO and with Gerhart's inevitable success if he's given an opportunity to start than other teams may see the benefits of starting other White HB's like Hillis and Woodhead. Welker is breaking the mold at WR, hopefully Gerhart is allowed to do the same at RB. We already know that Hester has the ability to be a featured back all we needs is for 1 coach to also see his obvious talents and tell the Caste masters to F-off.
 
I don't think Jacob Hester will ever get much more time out of the backfield for the Chargers. It seems like he's already well on his way to being a super duper special teams demon/part-time blocker/receiver like Brian Leonard in Cincy.

Drafting Toby Gerhart might be a good way for the Chargers to go for their regular RB. They have shown a willingness to use white players in seldom-seen positions in the past few years, like Weddle and Gregory.

Let's hope for the best.

Yep and Weddle has been a stud at safety for them. Weddle could play corner but that would never happen in the caste NFL.
