I just saw this on VU's website. Of the 3 guys left who are expected to compete for the DE spot, 2 are black. It may not seem like much, a guy like him transferring, but it adds up.

Vanderbilt Football Team Announces Transfer of Defensive Linemen David Carter

Nashville, Tenn. - Vanderbilt junior defensive end David Carter will transfer out of the program, Commodore Head Coach Bobby Johnson announced today.

Carter, a graduate of Fork Union (Va.) Military Academy, played a reserve role at defensive end as a freshman and sophomore. He contributed 18 total tackles in his Vanderbilt career. In 2005, Carter posted 10 tackles, two sacks and a fumble recovery.

A native of Waynesboro, Pa.,Carter was one of several candidates to replace Herdley Harrison as a starting defensive end opposite Chris Booker. Redshirt junior Curtis Gatewood and a pair of redshirt freshmen, Broderick Stewart and Steven Stone, will likey compete for the starting role when the Commodores open preseason camp in August.

Carter informed the Vanderbilt head coach of his desire to transfer last Friday. The head coach said Carter is leaving for personal reasons.
