Olympic medalist Vitali Tajbert (19-1, 6 KOs) won the WBC interim super featherweight world championship with a twelve round unanimous decision over reigning titleholder Humberto Gutierrez (26-2-1, 19 KOs). Tajbert was very sharp and in tremendous condition, as he outboxed the taller champion, especially over the second half of the fight.

Scores were 116-112, 116-112, 116-113.

It's good to have some more white champions in the lower divisions. We lost a few belts recently from middlweight up with Haye beating Valuev, Adamek giving up his IBF belt to move to heavyweight, and Kessler losing to Ward. Dimitri Sartison is also listed as champion for the WBA belt. All in all not too bad.

WBC super featherweight champion Vitali Tajbert (20-1, 6 KOs) retained his world title via nine round technical decision over veteran Hector Velazquez (51-15-2, 35 KOs). The bout went to the scorecards after a deep cut caused by an unintentional headbutt made it too dangerous for Tajbert to continue. Scores were 87-83, 88-82, 88-83.

Aoh dethrones Tajbert

Japanese southpaw Takahiro Aoh (20-2-1, 9 KOs), 130, impressively captured the WBC super-feather belt as he dropped defending champ Vitali Tajbert (20-2, 6 KOs), 129.5, with a smashing straight left in the third round and controlled the proceedings with his constant aggressiveness to win a unanimous decision ( 117-112, 115-112 and 116-112) over twelve fast rounds on Friday in Nagoya, Japan.

It was Aoh's career-best performance as he maintained the initiative all the way against Tajbert's occasional retaliation with his trademark left hooks. For Aoh, it was his second coronation, following his reign in the feather division.

Tajbert: I want a rematch

Now former WBC super featherweight titleholder Vitali Tajbert has commented on losing his title to Takahiro Aoh today in Nagoya, Japan.

"This was the first knockdown of my career,"Â￾ said Tajbert. "That didn't impress me or rattle me. Worse was that I injured my right hand with a punch in the second round. I definitely want a rematch. With two hands I would have defeated Aoh. Aoh brought a lot of pressure, so it was difficult to defeat him with only one hand. I hope he is fair and gives me a rematch. When he was still in the ring he said that he didn't feel like a champion."Â￾

Tajbert's promoter Dietmar Poszwa added, "On the right side of Aoh's face we saw what the left hooks from Vitali did. It was completely swollen. Both will now undergo a medical examination, but compliments and congratulations to Aoh. Too bad that Vitali hurt his hand. His right hand was very, very good in the first two rounds. If he hadn't been injured the result would have been in his favor. The next step is waiting for Aoh-Humberto Gutierrez, the mandatory challengers. Only then would a rematch be possible. We want this very much."Â￾

Tajbert will return tomorrow to his hometown of Stuttgart, Germany.
