Along with Tye Fields' first round body shot KO (it seemed like most of the damage was done by the body shot right before the left hook to the head, in my opinion anyway,) Versus also showed Armenian junior-middle prospect Vanes Martirosyan's 1:34 second blowout of his opponent. Those right crosses were nasty! This is a talented, tall, hard-hitting young fighter.

Vanes fought again last night, winning every round against a durable opponent. It's only been two weeks since his last fight! Good to see he's very active - fighting frequently will help him continue to develop.

Vanes easily won again tonight by third round TKO against his Mexican opponent, who came into the fight with a 20-1 record.

Since I root for Martirosyan, I can't possibly be anti-Semitic, JD074. Vanes, who represented the US in the 2004 Summer Olympics, is from an Armenian Christian family, and Armenians are of the Semitic race.

Yeah, j411181, while focusing on Froch v Johnson and Zbik v Chavez, Martirosyan, sorta got lost in the conversation. HBO showed hilights of his fight. He got clipped by Roman eariler in the fight, but wheathered the storm and KO'd Roman in a hilight reel KO. Congrats to Martirosyan! He is emerging as a serious threat in the 154 lb division.

This spectacular win is reminiscent of Pavlik's first win over Jermaine Taylor in 2007. Unlike that overrated Chavez Jr., Martirosyan if fast becoming the real deal.

If they were matched up right now, based on the way both fought today, I see Martirosyan KOing Chavez in 6-7 rounds. Sergio Martinez would destroy Chavez in 3-4 rounds.

Martirosyan will become a force in both 154 & 160 lb divisions.

There is a good fight on HBO in approx 1 hour or so. Martiosyan vs Lara.
Vanes has great opportunity to become a force on the national stage in the 154 lbs division with a win against top contender Lara. Lara is no affeletic HBO hype job (beat Paul Williams, got jobbed 2 years ago). He can fight. Vanes needs to step up and beat him tonight. Looking forward to this great match up with 2 fighters approaching or in their primes. Lets GO Vanes!!!

The fight was called a draw after a accidental head butt in rd 8. Vanes sustained a huge gash over his left eye and the doctor called the end to the fight.

I had Vanes up a 1 point. Lara is a defensive wizard, but did not do enough to win more rounds. I won't argue over a draw.

Then....................................I switched over to Showtime to catch the main event. Abner Mares(a very anglo talking and looking) hispanic/American fighter vs a world calss affeleto Moreno. A scintillating fight. Action non stop, with Mares getting the UD. While watching Mares I thought I was watching a prime/young Roberto Duran.

A great weekend of championship boxing.
