I will try and keep you all informed of new up and coming fighters from the UK as and when i can. My knowledge is mainly the local amateur scene in Liverpool there are lots local boys who have been dominating the national ABA's for nearly 5 years. But a lot of these lads have yet to turn pro but when they do we are looking at some future contenders.
One lad David Price a 6-7 Heavyweight excellent hands for a big man is a top prospect.
Paul'real gone kid' smith a middleweight has turned pro is 9 or 10 underfeated and is trained by and involved with Ricky Hattons camp so keep you eyes on him for future reference.

The English are certainly making quite a name for themselves in boxing with Hatton, Calzaghe, Clinton Woods, Carl Froch, Scott Harrison (OK, Scottish). I've heard that the Scousers (people from Liverpool) are known as the toughest in England. That it why I am surprised none of the curent crop of top boxers hails from Liverpool. But please do keep us updated on the UK and amatuer scene CelticWarrior!

I read that Calzaghe is a Welshman. He's something like 41 or 42 -0, with 18 title defenses.With hisvery impressive victory over Lacy--why isn't hemore heralded?Can someone give me a phonetic pronunctiation of his name? I've heard it pronounced different ways.

Joseph "Joe" Calzaghe is a British boxer of half Italian and half Welsh descent, based in Wales. He was born on March 23, 1972, at Hammersmith Hospital, London, UK. Joe's father/trainer Enzo was born in Sardinia but had already spent many years living in England.


When Calzaghe was two years old the family moved to South Wales, from where Calzaghe's mother hailed. He is sometimes referred to as the "Italian Dragon" as a nod to his mixed heritage (the dragon being a Welsh emblem), or the "Pride of Wales". Encouraged by his father, Joe was a promising footballer and boxer, first putting on gloves at Newbridge Boxing Club at the age of nine. A Welsh fighter I'm becoming impressed with is Scott Gammer. I've been following him for a while, and he looks like he's now ready to bust onto the British title scene. He is scheduled to fight Matt Skelton, though i'm not sure if that fight will come off. He's 6'2 about 230. He's 15-0 with a draw. I hope he can fight Skelton and win.
