OK gentlemen, Time to make your picks on UFC 77. Here are mine.

Franklin vs Silva-This going to be a hard fight for Rich but I think he can pull it off. I would bet that Franklin has just about wore out the video of Lutter vs Silva and has made plans to take the fight to the ground and try and pound out a victory. Franklin by TKO in the fourth.

Sylvia vs Vera-Vera has some decent wins under his belt but I think he's going to have trouble getting past big Tim's reach and taste his first defeat in the UFC. Sylvia by KO in round 3.

Schafer vs Bonner-I'll take Bonner in this match-up. Don't know much about Schafer but I think Bonner is legit and hungry. Bonner by TKO in round 2.

That's my picks gentlemen. Anyone care to wade in may do so at any time =^)

I don't know what's going to happen in these matches.

Vera can win if he presses Sylvia the way Couture pressed Sylvia. He can't let Sylvia's jab slow the fight down to a crawl.

If Vera presses the action and tests Tim's cardio he's got a chance.

As far as Franklin/ Silva goes; Rich has got to get Anderson's attention, he's got to land something big and test Silva's heart...the only question mark about him in my opinion.

I don't want to make a pick in the Franklin fight. I fear for Franklin, but my heart wants to believe he has come up with a new game plan and a new attitude that will enable him to beat Silva.

The Vera-Sylvia fight depends on which Big Timmie shows up. The guy who wanted to pound Mir into the canvas with a broken arm, or the guy who jabs all night and fights for the decision. If Tim has regained his hunger, Vera gets KO'd.

Schafer v Bonnar - I'm wondering why this fight is on the main card, while Yushin Okami is fighting on the undercard.

I think Lutter put the spotlight on Silva's weakness. If Franklin holds his ground on the initial exchanges long enough to convince Silva he will strike with him then Franklin can rip Silva's legs out from under him and start a good ground and pound game from Silvas half guard. Franklin needs to avoid Silvas full guard due to his body type (long legs) and the threat of a triangle. In the half guard or mount position Franklin can take advantage of the position and introduce Anderson to some well placed elbows which could potentially end the fight.

As far as Sylvia and Vera goes, I don't see Sylvia gassing and I believe he has too much punching power for Vera to last the entire three rounds.

Franklin loses in almost the exact same fashion as he did the first time, punches and knees to the face, except he made it into the second round. He was actually KO'd at the end of round one with no time left, and was helped back to his stool. He came out and made it about another minute before eating more punches and knees to the face before he crumpled to the canvas, just like in the first fight. Well, actually, I think this time he fell to his left whereas in the first he fell to his right...

There were moments in the fight where Rich was looking up at the monitor, and his eyes were as big around and bright as a new silver dollar. He looked okay at the walk-in and stare down, but the first time Silva got his hands around his neck you could see Rich's expression change. It looked like he expected to get beat down... and he did.

No shame in his loss though. In my opinion it takes major balls to get back into the cage to fight someone who beat you as bad as Silva beat Franklin the last time.

Sylvia won a UD over Vera. Big Timmie tried harder this time to keep the fight from being too boring, but with only marginal success. Vera claimed to have broken his hand in the first round, and said he will remain at heavyweight.

Bonnar won by ref stoppage.

Yeah, Rich was pretty much out-gunned.

Big Tim thumped Vera. Liked how Tim called out Kongo at the end.

How about the Grand Canyon over Starnes' eye? Yuck.

Belcher looked good.

hey white folks

the Black Brazilian Silva shows superior skill and technique to embarrass your fighter once again. He put on a striking clinic and even showcased a few new nifty dance moves to the stiff slow Caucasian.

BTW how did you guys like that article from Bradley Rockwell

Silva's only an average level Muay Thai fighter, the only reason he looks so good is because Dana dos'nt sign elite level strikers from Europe which leaves guys like Houston Alexander and Rampage Jackson to beat on guys who come from predominately wrestling backgrounds.White men dominate Muay Thai, check the results from major k1 events around the world.Theirs countless guys from Greece,Holland,England,Soviet Rebublics who'd knock Silva out and expose his lack of heart, but of course they dont compete in UFC
smiley7.gif
which makes his domination so much more unbearable especially in the face of the gloaters.Hey,Warhammer who dominates boxing, and further more who are the hardest punchers p4p.

Warhammer needs a reality check. Whites own 3 of the 5 titles in UFC and when the Europeans start coming over it will be back to 5 of 5. In boxing, whites own 16 of the 20 belts from middle to heavy and the few blacks remaining as champs have mandatories with white fighters.

Silva (a mulatto) can fight but don't get too excited as 185 is a weak division. Whites still own blacks in the fighting sports.

White men dominate Muay Thai

Your hate has made it impossible to even see the silliness of statements like these.

WHITE men dominate Muay Thai? Or the sh*tty watered down Euro version? Bring those guys to Thailand there are 15 y/o Thai fighters that will literally kill those f**ks in a ring.

Well, give us some stats then. Every time I see a black in muay thai he is going to sleep at the hands of a white or Asian fighter.

Stick to crack dealing.

Blacks make up 12% of your population. Those are good numbers IMO. Most of the black community are barely aware of MMA. As the sport becomes more popular expect fighters from a wider array of skin colours to invade and dominate.

Silva (a mulatto)??!

are you nuts? you see how black that dude is? He looks like the most stereotypical West African ever!

Even Rampage probably has a more genetically mixed genetic profile

Another reality check:

Blacks make up about 15-20% of UFC fighters and only two are top level. Even those two have lost to white fighters.

Are blacks not exposed to boxing? Ever seen a boxing gym or government boxing program not based in the "inner city"? Yet only two American blacks are champs in the upper weights (Chad Dawson and Steve Cunningham). And both these guys have mandatories with whites who will likely KO them.

UFC and boxing are worldwide sports and blacks most certainly do not dominate. Usually they end the fights on their backs like Jermaine Taylor against Kely Pavlik.

Lol, Warhammer it sounds like you are trying to convince yourself of some kind of dominance. 12% of "your" population? I'm assuming you are a foreigner with that quote.

The mulatto is a good striker, but hardly invincible. Andersdon Silva lost to Takuse (who had a 4-7 record). He was outstriked by Ryo Chonan, who eventually submitted him.

Having to claim black accomplishments from Mulatto = sad.

Why do you guys bother talking to or quoting this idiot? Every time a white guy loses a fight anywhere in the world someone like him comes here to talk about it and gloat. Funny how they never show up when the black guy get KO'd.

Silva isn't a mulatto, but he isn't a black American negro, either. The guy comports himself with class and doesn't act like an idiot in his interviews or in victory. I wish guys like this idiot troll and others like him really would idolize Silva and act more like him than the ghetto-thugs that dominate black culture.

Amazing. When it was a few good Euros in the HW division in boxing, and 100% White in MMA, the trolls said it was because MMA didn't pay good enough and all the Blacks went for boxing.

Now Whites DOMINATE boxing, still dominate MMA, the paychecks are still the same, but the trolls are reversing course.

Silva and Jackson are the two best black MMA fighters in the world, period. Neither can claim to be best fighter in their respective divisions, having been thoroughly beaten-up by non-Blacks. I know some former PRIDE stars have been upset in the UFC, but we all know PRIDE recruited better fighters overall. IMO, Silva and Jackson are "ringers" deliberately introduced from MMA's "major league" into the minors to make the UFC's skin tone politically correct. No disrespect to Franklin and Liddell, but here you have a math teacher and an accountant who became MMA fighters midlife, essentially dedicated amateurs. Jackson has been hard tested by Lindland and Henderson, both of whom are essentially MWs moving up to fight. It's hard to imagine Silva being much of a challenge to them.(Hell, Travis Lutter would have won the fight if he had come into in shape.) It's also hard to imagine Jackson beating the Randy Couture who fought Sylvia and Gonzaga if he chooses to move down again, and thats a 44 yearl old White man. (Imagine Couture if he had started early enough for his "skills" peak in MMA to coincide with his physical peak!).

It's sad really. Blacks know that the majority of them have done nothing with the opportunities given them, that their culture has become rotten and that they are wart on the arse of every area that has a large population of them. The only claim to superiority they ever had was success in sports they studied to the exclusion of all else, this aura of invincible toughness that the media built around them. Now that it has been demonstrated that a White man can be just as tough, they and their media allies are becoming shrill and hysterical.

BTW, it IS shameful that Franklin failed to beat Silva with a revised game plane when Lutter nearly did it, the only thing that can explain it is a failure of the mental armor to mend since the last fight.Edited by: White_Savage

I don't have a problem with Silva, he comports himself with class and appears to be truly humble. Even Rampage to me is more show than anything else. The one MMA guy who I used "worship", I find is a classless punk (Frank Shamrock). I just don't think MMA attracts Pacman Jones types or prime Mike Tyson type people.....

I would agree with that, white is right. Rampage is a goof but I think he has respect for the sport and his opponents. That goes double for Anderson Silva, who was the model of class in his victory over Franklin. They're both good fighters and I enjoy watching them and what they bring to the cage. Obviously the UFC does some shielding for some of its fighters with questionable matchmaking but for the most part, it's a sport that treats fighters objectively based on talent, unlike the NFL, NBA, et al.

while I was hoping for an upset its no use. Silva fought a perfect fight, and Rich didn't learn anything from their last one, getting dominated in the same fashion as he did in their first encounter. I feel Silva and Rampage are fairly respectful and therefor respectable men, even if they are a bit showy as is nothing new to black performers.

I was really disappointed though, I thought Rich would come back with a bit of a defense against Silvas superior lanky striking, but again he hardly landed a finger on him. Tim Sylvia showed moments of his old self in his fight, but it was alot of pressing with none of the entertaining "dirty boxing" couture is known for. If that fight would have gone ten more seconds Vera would have been dropped...but on the other hand if that other round would have gone for much longer Big Tim would have been in trouble...

I dunno, kind of an uninteresting night, I really wanted to see Macdonald and Okami, I don't even know who won that one yet, but Im sure someone posted it somewhere on these hurr forums ;_;

I am in agreement in regards to Anderson Silva. Don't get me wrong I was rooting for Franklin. However, Anderson Silva is a great, great fighter. It's just that simple. I see no one of any race whether it be white, black, japanese, or latin being able to beat him at 185. I suspected he would win the Franklin fight but was hoping I was wrong. It is hard not to like Anderson Silva a little because of his demeanor. He is all class,(I am not on dudes nuts either, just calling it like I see it while trying to be non-biased) and appears to give the utmost respect for other fighters. (Even those he annihilates)Franklin in my opinion is a top tier fighter who has beaten some very good fighters in his own right. To get completely dismantled twice by Anderson Silva is a testament to just how good Silva actually is.

With that said, we got Brock Lesnar coming over in the UFC to start a new reign of terror. I see Lesnar capturing the title. A physical specimen if I ever seen one Lesnar is.

1. First off to reply to the other Guest bashing "slow" white fighters and talking about blacks being the best overall kickboxers. My simple request is that check out the highlight reel of Aussie boy Nathan Carnage Corbett. This man is far and away the best 185 lbs Muay Thai fighter. I would love to see A. Silva or any other black kickboxer at 185 stand toe to toe with him. Nathan's only recent loss was to an upcoming White American named Alex Roberts, however he seems to have bounced back. Check his fights on Youtube, includes a few KO's over black fighters. Enjoy this reel

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jeSNpG9JkLg

2. Along with the above consensus I do have respect the positive attitude of A. Silva and even to a lesser extent Rampage. However I disagree that Silva is untouchable at 185. If Travis Lutter can give him problems, any submission wrestler can. I'm hoping Dan Henderson or Matt Lindland (pretty unlikely due to his relations with Dana White) would be willing to drop back down to 185 before age gets the best of them. Grapplers/Wrestlers like Paulo Filho, Dean Lister, Jeremy Horn (who was injured in his last fight w/ Silva but still fought to a decision), and maybe even Frank Trigg could also give Anderson some problems.

3. I have tremendous amount of respect for Franklin because of his amazing work ethic which enabled him to succeed in this sport despite starting at a much later age than most of his opponents. That being said I cant figure out for the life of me why didn't try to take Silva down in the second round after being save dby the bell in the first. In uderstand him trying to establis his standup in the first round, which he did a decent job of prior to the knockdown. However, when he was clearly dazed in the second he should have shot in for a takedown asap. Silva's take down defense is pretty good, but not the best. Rich was toying with time by standing with Silva in a dazed state. Who knows though their good just be a future for Rich at 205, its def. closer to his natural weight.
