One of the elite runners in the 2006 class, Gerhart ran for 3,035 yards and 33 touchdowns as a sophomore and earned acclaim throughout California and the nation. A bum ankle limited him much of his junior year, but he still amassed 2,210 yards and 27 scores on 281 carries (7.9 ypc).

squat - 495
vertical - 30"

4.6 (advanced placement) GPA/1810 (2400 ceiling) SAT/already 36 junior college credits.

Toby is taking an official visit to Ole Miss soon, but has not committed. He is being highly recruited and is one of the best at his position in the country.Edited by: Colonel_Reb

was just named a Parade All-American, and is deciding betw. Stanford and UCLA.

I would like to see him go to which ever school will let him compete for the featured back position.

Gerhart is a two sport athlete and not sure which way he will go. He is faster than 4.5 because he ran a 6.35 60 yard dash at a baseball camp. He is an outfielder in baseball but many project him as a catcher. He may play both sports in college.

His stats at Rivals.com, 4.48 sec 40 yd, 38 in. vertical leap, and squats 515 lbs! That is incredible for a guy 6'1" and 228 lbs. He ended his high school career with 9,662 yds rushing, smashing the Calif. record! I hope he goes to a PAC-10 team to get some exposure.Edited by: SteveB

hopefully this one will stay a Runningback throughout his college career and gets a chance to start!

scout.com has Toby receiving interest from Stanford, UCLA, Ole Miss, Duke, and Utah.. I sure hope he goes somewhere where he's given a chance... knowing Duke's track record of actually playing whites at HB I'd like to see him go there and excel!

Duke's track record of losing and the prospect of him running against ACC defenses with Duke's line may not be the best thing for him. Justin Boyle, of Duke, is probably a better back than he has been able to show at Duke ,but at least they do play him. It's a tough call.

It is interesting that many of the players listed on this board have an interest from Utah, Colorado St., or TCU. Those schools seem to be doing a good job of locating white talent and going after them. It seems to be paying off as well with Utah being one of the top teams in the country in the last few years.Edited by: SteveB

Sounds like a good match. Decent football team and great academically for a smart kid like Toby. Although is Standford a hard core caste school? Col Reb some stats please on the starting line up.

Stanford is one of the top schools in the country academically, which is why the football team is usually whiter than most -- they can't toss all their standards out the window for non-college material "student-affletes" like most other programs do.

I think academics and baseball were the deciding factor for Toby. Stanford has one of the top baseball programs in the country.

Stanford had 7 whites on offense last year. They also had a WR that I can't figure out what he is. I'll put his pic in the college football thread. Stanford also has 3 whites on defense. I'll post more about them in the college football section. I hope Toby can get a shot at RB there.

I think Stanford is a school that will actually give him a chance at RB or else Toby wouldn't have picked them. I mean if I'm Toby I'm looking at how much playing time whites get and he probably saw that Standford will give him a chance at RB. He's a smart kid, he made the smartest possible choice.

It's a shame that USC, who is heavily recruiting Tailbacks this year, didn't even offer the all time leading Rusher in California history a scholarship. If the roles were reversed and he was a black QB who just smashed all the records AND HAD THE MEASURABLES someone would be fired. I saw Toby play this year and he is the real deal. If he doesn't end up going Pro in baseball before he earns a starting Tailback slot he will be a great candidate to make the jump to the NFL.

hopefully he gets to let USC regret their mistake of not recruiting him

I'm glad USC didn't recruit him, because they might waste his talent and not use him.. not that it won't happen at Stanford, but it's less likely... I think Stanford could easily be a bowl team this year if they continue to improve as they have a decent nucleus returning.. especially if they give Gerhart some carries as a true freshmen

Actually USC started Scott Lockwood in the early 90's. Granted he wasn't a dominant back or anything, but they did play him.. I think he was platooned and had a cup of coffee in the NFL with the Patriots.........

Stanford also played "Touchdown" Tommy Vardell at running back.He had a great career there a little over a decade ago.He went to the NFL and then got phased out.

They are playing Toby Gerhart this season but they are bringing him along very slowly. He has had some good game. The future looks bright for this kid.He should be a star tailback for the next three years.Experience as a freshman can only help him down the road.
