I always found it interesting that he could fix various devices to signal the military that he and the other castaways survived but couldn't figure out how to repair the damaged cabin cruiser. Ps CNN has the same day obituary of a Japanese soldier that survived in the jungles of the Philippines for 35 years after WWII ended. That's ironic. I'm watching Gilligan's Island as we speak and keeping track of the NBA games. Tell's you you what kind of life I've got. Actually, just waiting for the wife and kids to get home with my Chick fil A'.

Maybe they used him as an early reality tv star as he did the comical things that the Japanese soldier did to survive ie steal off the camp. The soldier and the late Bob Denver should have done a publicity tour together or at least Carson....:becky: PS I guess everybody needs money but where was Pat Morita for this episode as a painting an obvious Caucasian to play a Japanese soldier is pretty over the top even by the farcical standards of this show...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SD4Y_3hrd98

The professor was a bombardier on a B-25. He flew 44 missions over the Philippines. On his last mission he was shot down and was a el life castaway. I was amazed that he could do so much but he couldn't fix the boat or at least find out how the Harlem globetrotters got on and off the island.
