Samardzija to play baseball

Gonzalez is a junior if I remember correctly, I doubt we'll see him in this years draft.
 
I would have rather seen Samardzija play football, but from a financial and practical standpoint his decision was probably for the best.
 
Jeff Samardzija is looking out for number one. He knows that the NFL sh*ts on white athletes that try to stand as role models for middle America.

Hope for a white Bo Jackson. Samardzija would be a low profile receiver and forced to be a "possession receiver."
No coach would play him. In baseball, if you're playing well, they have to play you. In football, it is much more subjective. Edited by: Freedom

If he were an outfielder I could see him trying to play two sports. As pitcher never. The pitching arm is too valuable to suffer an injury too on a tackle or hit.
 
Jeff is a pu$$y who took the easy way out. I guess he got scared of having to face bad black CBs qat the next level. What a joke Samardzjia is!
 
He's no joke, whiteCB, and he's no ***** either. He's smart, like a lot of white men. He saw what happened to Hass, knew he'd get screwed and left with much less attractive baseball options, and made the best decision. I am disappointed too, but there's no way I'm gonna call him names because he didn't do what I wanted him to. Besides, if he stays in shape, he could give football a try later on. His chances of making an impact won't really decrease that much because he's white.
 
Samardzija might just like baseball better, he has been quoted as saying such, although it's hard to believe that if he is racially aware that his decision was not swayed by what he has seen happen to other white NFL players.
 
Maybe down the road in several years,he might decide to try football again.There have been many minor and some major league players go back to football after 3 or 4 years.We shall see.I would love to see him at wide receiver but I wish him the best anyways!It just sucks that Notre Dames All Time Leading Receiver will probably never play a day in the NFL!

Did anyone else read the thing they had on Jeff leaving at draftdaddy.com. It's so much harder to pitch successfully in MLB and striking out batters, than it is to burn mediocre NFL DBs. Jeff is going to realize that life in the minor leagues, no matter how much your making, is no fun. The 10+ hour bus rides are going to get real old real fast. He's going to miss coming out of the tunnel on game days and scoring TDs in front of 70,000 fans. Jeff would have been a top 25 pick and that right there is 7 figure money. Plus I really think he had the potential to be a perennial Pro Bowler. Meaning that after his 1st contract would run out he would get a 2nd one that would have topped his baseball deal. Samardzija took the easy way out and I now respect him less than before. Way to blow it Jeff. Your going to realize how hard it is to make it in baseball. You'll just become another burnout in the minor leagues like so many others when you COULD HAVE made it in football without a doubt.

Samardzija has been quoted saying that he enjoys the sport of baseball more than football. I don't see that as a reason to respect him any less.
 
There is disappointment to this especially being a pitcher instead of a caste breaking wide receiver. Seems money played a big role--no surprise--and he played off his football talents. But I lean towards whitecb--no gurantee in MLB whereas in football he was a clear first round pick. Here is a good comparison. Darin Erstad was a stud punter at nebraska and looked like a NFL player. But Erstad was also a dedicated baseball player who was largely considered the best college player after a stellar career at Nebraska with all- american honors and #1 pick in the MLB draft.. It was easy to see why he chose baseball and as it turned out has a had a good career not to mention a world series ring playing stellar centerfield for the Angels. BTW he just got traded to the White Sox.
JS on the other hand throws hard and well lets just say he is far from being as advanced as Erstad. I wonder if JS can withstand the grit and grime of minor league baseball. Millions of guys have wilted in the minors. Nothing like Big Macs Dunkin Donuts everyday. If he turns out to be a great pitcher we can't argue with him. But I think as it stands now he just grabbed the money and in the end may regret his decision. One less white WR in the NFL can't be a good thing.
