Rogers was an American professional soccer player. He spent a couple years in England with Leeds United and was currently under contract with the Columbus Crew in MLS. He earned 18 caps for the national team but hasn't been considered for awhile. He is 25. Also noteworthy: Rogers started a menswear company and also writes a regular column for Men's Health magazine.

Secrets can cause so much internal damage. People love to preach about honesty, how honesty is so plain and simple. Try explaining to your loved ones after 25 years you are gay. Try convincing yourself that your creator has the most wonderful purpose for you even though you were taught differently.

Typical gay histrionics, in my opinion. He couldn't even come out of the closet like a man.

If sexuality is malleable in any small way, he is doing the right thing by stepping away from the game. Our society should not encourage deviant behavior. I don’t begrudge Rogers for his confession, but he shouldn’t remain in a position of prominence where he might be looked up to as a role model. Unfortunately, the Powers That Be in the media will assure him an eternal spotlight if he wants it.

If that were not the case then there would be no reason for them to agonize over it and make such a scene about it. There certainly is no public shaming being done to homosexuals and no criminal worries, so if the new way of looking at it is that it is both natural (genetic) and accepted, why is it such a big deal to announce it. Or even more, why announce it?

What they are saying is loud and clear: they are extremely embarassed and ashamed of what they are doing, so please, give them some positive support so they can continue to act in that manner with as little of a guilty conscience as possible. And furthermore, society and religion, please bless this activity so instead of the knowledge that it is a disgusting sin in their hearts they can lie to themselves that it is right and moral.
