It's not clear yet whether the targeted politician is Bulgarian or Turkish, but fortunately the would-be assassin's gun didn't work and he ended up getting pummeled. The man targeted, who looks to be at least 60, shows a cool head and quick reflexes.

Never seen anything like that before...fortunately it seems as if this wasn't an intended assassination (the weapon was a gas pistol, which is generally non-lethal), though the weapon definitely jammed and such an experience is sufficient to give you the shivers for many weeks. The politician who was targeted is Ahmed Dogan (an ethnic Turk) and he is the honorary leader of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms, a party that represents the interests of the Turkish minority in Bulgaria. Most of those in attendance were ethnically Turkish and it appears that the attacker Oktai Enimehmedov has Turkish roots as well and is likely to face charges for grave hooliganism and intimidation rather than attempted murder. Enimehmedov has previously spent time in jail for robberies and assaults. I don't understand why security was nowhere to be seen during the initial confrontation and they also didn't step in quickly enough in order to prevent the other politicians from manhandling the culprit.http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2013/jan/19/bulgaria-gas-pistol-politican
