Penn vs Pulver tonight!

Alright guys, Let's have a roll call. Who are you leaning toward on tonight's fight, BJ Penn or Jens Pulver? Pulver has a decision win over Penn from several years ago and has not looked very good in his most recent fights. Penn, on the other hand, is the larger man, much better versed on the ground and is very hard to take down.

I personally don't believe Pulver will even try to take BJ down so that is a non-issue regarding the fight. I do believe Pulver is a little bit better in boxing and has a stronger desire to win. I also think Pulver NEEDS this win so I'm going with Pulver to pull off a third round TKO.

Good assessment dkr77. I'm pulling for Jens, but think BJ is the better all-around fighter. My gut is that BJJ wins by submission or TKO in 2nd, but I hope Jens pulls out a KO.

P.S. - Who do you like Diaz vs. Gamburyian? I'm think Nate wins via decision or submission.

I want Pulver to win. I haven't predicted a fight correctly in awhile (well, I guess I got the Shamrock - Baroni fight right) so I won't hazard a guess.

I'm rooting for Karo's cousin.

Roger Huerta, of S.I. cover fame (Roger who? ), with a record listed on the UFC website of 19-1-1, is facing a white fighter named Doug Evans, who just started training in MMA about a year ago. His record is 6-0. Looks like Roger is the next rising star in the UFC. Look for him to take the Rashad Evans route to the top. Edited by: White Shogun

LOL @ the UFC match makers. Sean Salmon almost derailed the next great black hope in Rashad Evans, and Doug Evans almost derailed the Huerta train.

Evans weighed in a pound under the limit, which tells me he walks around a natural lightweight. Huerta was obviously much bigger and heavier, and probably a bit stronger although Evans controlled Huerta in the clinch.

Huerta was faster and hit harder with his hands and kicks, but Evans definitely controlled the clinch and the grappling in the first round, sufficiently enough to give him the round. Evans almost had Huerta in a RNC and a guillotine but failed to capitalize before the round ended.

In Round 2, Huerta went for the takedown. They grappled for a bit before he got Evans' back. Evans proned out and Huerta hit him in the side and back of the head til Mazagatti stopped the fight.

DD, I'm going with Manny Gamburyan (sp?)by ground and pound decision. I really enjoy Diaz style of fighting but I have a feeling Manny will simply be too strong for him and grind out a win.

Shogun, Evans impressed me also. He did look like the smaller fighter and I didn't particularly care for the way he would lead an exchange with a left uppercut and then lean way back in order to avoid Huertas' counter right hand. But Evans wrestling is what kept him in the mix. I believe with a little more striking skill he could potentially be a top player in the 155 division.

I think even Rogan and Goldberg were surprised at Evans' performance, judging by their play by play.

Thales Leites beat Floyd Sword in what was essentially a grappling match almost from the beginning. Leites is another guy the UFC seems to have their eye on.

Penn pretty much dominated throughout. He almost submitted Pulver with an arm bar and a triangle in the first round. To his credit, Pulver managed to escape and make it to the second round.

Penn got Pulver's back very early in the second, stretched him out, and finally sunk the RNC.

Ouch!!! I'm 0 for 2. I knew Pulver might be a stretch but I was sure Gamburyan would pull off a decision win. Oh well.. Maybe next time. A great night of fights. In the post fight interview Pulver was all class in defeat and Penn came across as a total a$$wipe in my opinion.

Gamburyan separated his shoulder going for a takedown. He said during the post fight interview that it happens frequently, and in fact occurred during his fight with Joe Lauzon during the show. He said he was trying to pop it back in but it hurt too much.

The Maynard fight was the best of the night, IMO, and the Gamburyan one was shipping up to be very good as well if it weren't for his injury. Maybe he trains a little too hard, eh? I was really surprised by Evans performance and was rooting for him to send that kid back to mexico, too bad...

I have to admit that I liked how he pinned Pulver's arm with his leg. I had never seen that before. Somewhat reminiscent of how his arms got pinned down by Hughes.

Maynard knocking himself out with a slam... wow! One of the most bizarre endings to a fight ever!
