PacMan 30th Anniversary

I thought I'd start a thread on this game. I don't think there is a member on this site who hasn't played it. It's a classic and it came out a year before I was born. It brings back a lot of memories as I remember playing it as a kid.

I loved this game as a teenager and eventually I got so good at it I could make one quarter last me well over half a hour. Galaga, 1942 and Punchout were also favorites of mine. I hated Asteroids and Defender, never got the hang of it.

Pong and Asteroids were as far as I got into the video game craze, thankfully.

In my schoolboy days, my favorite arcade games were PacMan, Ms.PacMan, Galaga & Centipede. I also enjoyed Skee ball & pinball games. I never had any video games (Atari, Commodore, etc.) at home & have never gotten into gaming systems. My oldest boys have a Gameboy, & they & my daughter have Leapfrog (educational) game player. However, we limit their time on video games (& the "TalmudVision").

My wife & I are big on the kids reading & being outdoors (playing, swimming, riding bikes, etc.). I take my 3 oldest fishing in the spring/summer & will probably take my oldest son hunting this fall.

Dixie, playing Pacman brings my childhood back. The 80's were a simpler and better time. We had a very good president in office in Ronald Reagan. I don't like change and in this century we will see too much of it.

WA33, I too have fond memories of the 80s (in grade school thru HS), and often pine for those "good ol' days" (including my young'un days in the 70's). IMO, Reagan was a better POTUS than "Jorge Boosh" (Sr. & Jr.) & much better than "Sick Willie ClinTAX" & "Obongo". However, he had too many NeoCON leanings (Amnesty via ARCA in '86, his Bohemian Grove attendance(s), naming "RINO" O'Connor to SCOTUS & his "chickenhawk" positions). IMO, no modern POTUS holds a candle to legendary ones like Jefferson & Andrew Jackson.

I never was into this game as once Ms. Pacman was introduced the original disappeared at the local arcades in my area. I do recall guys that were older in their late teens to early 20's doing crazy scores at Ms. Pacman once they figured out the patterns of the game. Back when arcade games were in their prime in the 80's free lunches were abound for guys that gambled and beat their buddies and guys from the neighborhood. I can't answer for white is right but I think I got as far as the 11th KEY symbol on Pacman. I discovered a pattern to use by trial and error and just kept playing till they got me. It's been a long time so don't remember the numerical score.

What's your best score?

Not very high on Ms. Pacman maybe about 30K and I got to the apple board. At one time Atari used to sponsor tournaments in Ms. Pacman and other games such as Asteroids and the winner could win decent money. I think they used to have the tournaments in the ballrooms of the major casinos in AC. Edited by: white is right
