Khanukah is one of the most minor holidays in the year for less than 2% of the US population.

Hanukah and the miracle of the oil is the celebration of the Maccabees' victory over the Hellenized priesthood of Jerusalem and the re-dedication of the temple. The Maccabees' main argument with their priesthood at the time was the act of circumcision. Under Greek law, and that was practiced throughout the empire, physical mutilation was forbidden and circumcision was seen as a crime committed against the innocent.

The Maccabees' rebellion restored Mosaic Law and Judaic tradition by exterminating the Hellenized Jews of the day. It was the victory of the fundamentalist hillbillies over the progressive, civilized Jews of the city.

Of course, Obongo may have been confused. Kwanzaa's lampstand looks nearly identical to the Menorah, with the exception in that it is one candle short. The Menorah is supposed to be lit, one candle at a time, over the 8 days of Hanukkah, but Obongo lit all of them at once, which is the tradition for Kwanzaa. Or perhaps he was just in a hurry!:kev:
